I was scanning this thread before logging in this morning... I am glad to have logged in so that some of my features, like 'Ignore' for example, are active.

It's raining and it's muesli with natural yoghurt for breakfast. Nice pie day reports and photos every one. :okay:

Back to mundane. I'm going to sand down the loft hatch, tidy it up with filler and caulk then paint it. This represents the start of my assault on the hall, stairs and landing.

I too thought your comment about terrorists was ill judged and perhaps you should have deleted it when Potsy first challenged you. Digging your heels in and throwing personal insults at Vernon does not endear you to your fellow forum members.

"You know more about bagpipes than fat gentlemen should" is about the most rediculous insult I have heard, truely Pythonesque in its nonsense.

Did not my explanation of what I was thinking actually throw more light on my meaning?

As for the comment on bagpipes, perhaps you haven't read the thread where scorn is cast on the quality of the instruments, quite unnecessarily. But, it seems, that's his habitual behaviour.

And I note that a certain person is now happily pouring oil on the fire.

We have all posted things from time to time that have been ill judged or have been open to an interpretation that we had not considered. The polite thing to do -and I have done it- is to delete the post and quietly accept that you made an error.

As for escalating your personal spat as you seem to want to do, all that will result in is censure by the mods and sniggering behind your back.

You're on a slippery slope there, once you start.......
I am doing the whole thing, it's the next room on my list. I'm working my way through the house, I'vr done the heating, windows, kitchen, study, bedroom and bathroom so far. I'm doing this one bit by bit as there is so much woodwork to tackle, so no stress.

Very windy out and my parents have phoned to say they are dropping by for lunch.... (From 100 miles away). It's a habit that drives Mr Summerdays mad.... Though years ago they didn't even phone ahead to say they were coming.

I ended up fitting 5 new doors when I did ours earlier this year, it was either that or 'dip n strip' em due to Maz's ex husband having painted them without any sanding down (I don't think he'd even wiped em before slapping on 'One-coat gloss' 30yrs ago) so when I'd painted em (properly) 10-12yrs back the paint was 'pulling' the old paint off in strips.
Look lovely now, matching handles and everything and glossed courtesy of my mate Geoff (time served Coach Painter) so not a run or drip in sight. :becool:

Good luck. Assault is the right word. I'm half way through mine and I started last Tuesday. And I've forgotten to u/coat the loft hatch....A much put off nightmare but could procrastinate no longer. The wife is away for 2 weeks so I grabbed my chance. Tuesday and Weds was all rubbing down, clearing up, sugar soap wash and rinse down.

Ready for gloss now (11 No. 2 colour doors, 49 banister spindles, dado rails, etc, all had 2 coats u/coat and rub down between coats). Just done all ceilings and first emulsion on walls. Covings different colour. i make it hard for myself.....

Having a coffee and biccy before back to the fray. My bike ticker won't move for another week yet....

I served my 'apprenticeship' under my late dad and granddad, both of whom were glossing perfectionists. I cannot stand rough gloss with bits in it, hairs etc. It has to be as near perfect as I can get it - I've go to look at it for the next 10 years. So, hats off to Geoff. One coat gloss should be banned. It has to be oil-based u/coat (and 2 coats, rub down between, and a proper coat of liquid gloss and an expensive brush). None of this tree-hugging, solvent free acrylic stuff that chips as soon as you bang your bike SPDs into the architrave.......

Stop it, I need to get the white gloss on the panels to my 11 hall and landing doors.......and then lock the dog up for the rest of the day.

I'm replacing the doors, I did two a few months back when I did the bedroom, I'm going to do the rest of the upstairs doors next weekend. As I said earlier, bit by bit and no timeframe.

I've gone all light headed reading that.

I have tools in my hand everyday at work, so I hate DIY.

We moved into the house 22 years ago and spent the first 18 months getting it to our liking. I then did bugger all except a bit of emulsion for the next 17 years, so now the mortgage is paid off I'm doing the whole thing again and that should be me good again for another two decades.:okay:
