I 'recovered' five decent paperback books from a pile of unclaimed school prizes from awards evenings at work. Pupils at my school shy away from celebrating success - they and their parents fail to attend the awards evenings, refuse to come down to collect the books in assemblies and decline to visit the office to collect them. Their loss is my gain. 
There's around £600 worth of books being returned to the suppliers tomorrow.

It's breathtakingly sad. The disinterest in achievement and betterment is unbelievable. I am sitting at school right now awaiting pupils to arrive for their 07:30 session - a session that they asked for and has a 40% attendance rate. They don't even have the grace to come and apologise for or explain their non attendance. It's usually a lame excuse. Their GCSE exams are seven weeks away and they are under-read, unprepared and under the illusion that "It will be OK on the day"

not really @User14044 ,one image that made me laugh during the London riots was a row of shops all smashed up and luted , the book shop in the middle of all the destruction was untouched..

It is worse when the students are just waiting for the forced revision sessions in Easter for me to tell them how to do the work.. Grinds my gears to extinction
