I'd have needed to unplane the bit that that I'd planed off. I used a permagrit sanding bar to do the deed - it was a small wing for a Ron Moulton Rascal C/L plane and a razor plane might have caught one or two ribs. I must pay closer attention to the plans - measure twice, check thrice, cut once and all that.

When we were shopping Saturday we brought a nice chop for my tea tonight, when I got home tonight it was sat on the worktop, I looked at it and thought "Chop!" "Blimey!" We've abandoned plans to grill it and its now in the oven simmering in oxo gravy.

Permagrit tools are excellent - I have several. My technique for shaping the LE is now (after taking off too much one time with a Permagrit bar ) is to shape the LE along its length with the plane so it looks like a threepenny bit, then go at it (gently) with a flat Permagrit bar to smooth the shape. But you do have to be really careful, as you say, not to catch the ribs! I lay the LE along my building board, but projecting about an inch over the edge, so I can sight along the length from the outer end. The thing is I'd sanded off the ledge that the sheeting should have been resting on. The leading edge was a strip of 1/8" x 1/2" which projected forward of the ribs by just over 1/16" for the sheet to rest on. I'd neatly sanded the ledge back to for a nice rounded aerofoil section with ensuing difficulties for attaching the sheeting.

I stick to C/L and sport freeflight models. I also means that I can have more of them in the restricted space that I have for storage.
