I am pretty sure that the main objective of last year's tour was to sample plenty of cake and beer just to ensure it was as good as claimed.
We were however very disappointed in the lack of cake establishments in The Netherlands and very surprised given the number of cyclists. Therefore we had to make do with beer. So by the time we hit Belgium we were well into our stride

We did a very thorough job on the beer front. The apple streusel we had was rather good too

I can't get the two weeks off I wanted to do my French canal trip... so I'm thinking of a week in Belgium. Eurostar fares are still ridiculously cheap in August.

I've just looked for September, they are stupidly cheap. So, how would I get from Brussels to somewhere interesting?

Lots of good routes radiate out from Brussels.

Looking at it, perhapes a mini rail tour would be a good thing. Our visit would be about beer, cake, beer, frites, beer, garlic mayo, beer. Cycling would be a step too far
