Till December.

It's a great job. He's running a dive concession on the shore of Lake Malawi. He's a bit sad at the mo because his security guard's 2 five year old children have just died of yellow fever. It's been a massive introducion to the realities of Africa.
That is sad, is there no form of inoculations over there for the locals?

Perhaps that should be Gravels summer volunteering job.

The vaccinations cost £7 but the guard can't afford them. We are going to pay for the rest of his children's jabs.
Rocky, that's lovely. Are there are other people working there facing the same problem? I'd be more than happy to help out.

Gravel is on his way to Peru for his elective as we speak. He's volunteering in a rural hospital for 6 weeks. I wonder if they know what they are getting.

 Poor fellow! We are so far from the realities that are faced by many around the world.... We can only hope that progress is made to reduce the impact of these diseases.

We went to remote Uganda about 25 years ago, and Mr Summerdays bumped his head (too tall). He only had a cut but it could possibly have done with a stitch or two. We had to make do with some antiseptic wipes swilled around in water. At that point we realised even with a car we were about 8 hours from a hospital. For any of the locals that would have been an impossible journey.
