I had a look on the NHS website yesterday and they seem pretty sure that you can catch chickenpox from shingles but not shingles from chickenpox. I've no idea whether you can catch rickets from a rickety fence though.
I believe that's the other way around. People who had chicken pox when younger are generally inocuclated so they don't get shingles later.
Chicken Pox is a manifestation of the varicella zoster virus. Shingles is the reactivation of the varicella zoster virus

You have a lot higher chance of getting shingles if you had chickenpox before you were 18 months old.

Because this conversation is making me itch I'll copy the NHS site info:

Is shingles contagious?
It's not possible to catch shingles from someone with the condition or from someone with chickenpox.

However, you can catch chickenpox from someone with shingles if you haven't had chickenpox before.

The blisters of shingles contain live virus. If a person who has never had chickenpox makes direct contact with an open blister or something with the fluid on it, they can contract the virus and develop chickenpox.

I thought that Shingles was the lurking old chicken pox virus, and that it was easier for it to escape and flare up if you were stressed??

I'm just back from accompanying the eldest in the car.... Getting their confidence up and driving unfamiliar roads! I'm quite enjoying having a personal chauffeur...they are improving, but still managed to stall the car at least once each journey (to be fair it's an old temperamental car so they are still getting used to it!)

That's my understanding as well about shingles. Decreased immune function , aging, etc. can all be contributing factors.

I'm missing the sea view we had in lovely Cornwall, watching the ebb and flow of the tides, the rolling waves, the boats pootling about and the yacht races. The washing piles are going down, cases etc are back in the loft but there's 'stuff' everywhere waiting to be put away. I'm sure I'll feel better when I've had a bike ride tomorrow.
You will!:hugs:

I did, have you been up Streatley Hill yet? http://cyclinguphill.com/100-climbs/streatley-hill/
Er no but I came down it. I need to build myself up to 20%

I didn't have long so did a quick loop down to Goring and around Woodcote and back. I did stop to admire the views and get my breath back but I never stopped on any of the hills. I feel quite virtuous now.
Tomorrow I'm going the same way but further on through the lanes as I think I have more time.
They have a machine here that tells you if you are cycling correctly or not very hi tech. I would rather just get out on the road I must admit but some say it's great. Some nice bikes here and one is a little Speech Dolce like mine that I have left at home:cry:she would eat these hills for breakfast.
