The engineer does not charge a call-out fee.

I think it protects electrical items from power surges. The correct name is "surge protection". So if you look up "surge protection box" you may find the explanation.

About twelve months ago, when a six month old boiler stopped working, I had long discussions with Valiant (the manufacturer of my boiler) and the man who lives opposite me. He used to be a research and development engineer for Bosch in their boiler department. He also has a "gas safe" licence/permit.

The manufacturer tried to say the problem was caused by a "power spike", but the Engineer said the power surge protector should have prevented this and therefore the problem was in their circuit board.

If anyone thinks I have got that wrong, please feel free to correct me.

Slept well enough. Other than re-stocking the wood in the house and bringing some food and toiletry items in from the utility room, I have done very little. It is now raining in this corner of Suffolk. Yet another day of greyness and bitter cold thanks to the windchill resulted in 25 miles on the bike, a hot coffee and a 30 minute recuperative snooze on the sofa.
