Oh LBA, how I miss you? I spent about 5 years commuting in and out.
Alternating between Schiphol and Frankfurt, usually west from Schiphol and East from Frankfurt.
You were never home until you actually got on ground at LBA
Only place I've ever been really anxious on landing. Daft place to build an airport. Couldn't decide what was worse, fog, snow or wind.
Stories abound of planes diverting not because of the landing but rather the planes crew adraid they would not be able to take off subsequently.
Another kitchen disaster late last night. Wrnt to retrieve a mug and it caught an overlarge dinber plate. Two plates and two cups broke. Tape measure to be put in use buying new dinner plates to ensure they are of a cupboard freindly size.

I can imagine that. One foggy morning the pilot announced that ground control claimed to see him through the murk. His reply was that he couldn't see them so we were off to Teeside and a bus ride.
It was a joke that when they started mowing the grass every week was when they called it LBA International.
