It's happened again - I've spent a ridiculous amount of time comparing route options and costs for a couple of rail trips in February.
With the first (Felixstowe-Lincoln) it turned out quicker and cheaper to take the longest route with the most changes (via Norwich & Newark Northgate) than a shorter, similar route but more hanging around. The most obvious direct route was the longest and most expensive.
For Lincoln-Harrogate the next day I've ended up with three separate tickets all to save £2 on the Trainline price which already includes split ticketing!
This is the sort of thing that passes for entertainment on long dark winter evenings
