I see the price of gold has risen. I'd cash in all my gold sovereigns if I hadn't eaten all the chocolate out of them.
During 2020 & 2021 I invested in some real Sovereigns using some of my savings as a way of spreading the financial risk. The average price I paid was £350 each.
I sold eight of them at this time last year at £500 each to pay for a new bike and a few other bits and thought my investment had done well.
Dealers are now offering between £850 and £875 to buy them
I still have enough of them left to make almost double my money back on the total original investment.

And in further tea-related news (and of interest to @deptfordmarmoset), Tesco Ely *finally* has their own brand gold and red label leaf teas back in stock after a hiatus of about 8 months. :wahhey:
Ooh, that's news indeed. They had the temporarily out of stock signs up for months but when they removed the signs I thought it was a definitive goodbye so I stopped looking. I've been getting along with M&S' Gold pretty well, occasionally adding some of their Extra Strong leaves to the mix, but I'll keep an eye out for these when I'm next in Tesco.

It's always good to have a tea scout around!:notworthy:

Thank you

I'd switched to the Waitrose Gold in the interim, which I must say, is very drinkable. And at £2.25 for 250g is cheaper (and nicer) than either PG tips or Yorkshire. The Tesco Gold is £1.90 for 250g, btw.

What pains me is seeing the sheer number of ladies' gold watches on the 'bay being sold for scrap...

They're going for silly money, and pricing out those who want to buy one to actually wear. And then once they're scrapped, they're scrapped and lost for good. And there are then so many orphan movements being sold for spares. So sad.

The price of 925 silver has also nearly trebled in the last couple of years - from 50p per gram to between £1.22 to £1.80 depending on where you go.

An unexpected first win of the year at track racing.

I felt unwell all evening, but kept going rather than go home. So an 8th place, which gets a track league point, a 7th, a 6th and OK with that for the first three of four races.

Then, 3 laps before the end of the final race I suddenly felt OK. At that point I was still just about hanging onto the bunch, so went for it and just managed to get the win.

Morning.
I was listening to a bit on the TV about Vets bills. It seems like they will price themselves out of the market if they aren't careful. My daughter has decided not to replace her cat despite the fact that she is now alone during the day.

Time to dig out my recipe for making Pure Green then?

My wife and I were talking about my silver torc last night. I made it on a Saturday metal working course at Devizes Museum years ago. I think the chap running the course was Neil Burridge. We paid £25 for the course in which we were all given a silver rod which we heated up to anneal it before twisting it to form a spiral and then tapering the ends to form hooks to secure the torch.
Neil demonstrated some gold forging with a small ingot of gold. The gold looked strange in its molten state in the crucible. It looked even stranger as Neil poured it into a mould as it shot out in a spray of tiny gold droplets! Panic! As Neil said that the small ingot cost £400!
