It's been a clement, breezy and mostly sunny day here chez Casa Reynard.

Slept well enough, but woke up earlier than usual. Ah well, hey ho. Downstairs, fed the cat, made myself a :cuppa: and took it upstairs to do some writing. Also spent a bit of time reading a few articles I'd bookmarked.

Did the chores at a better hour. Brought the empty bins in and parked them up in their little corner, and hung out the laundry I did yesterday. Had to peg it well, as I didn't want my smalls ending up in Coveney

The main task of the morning was to turn all those rain-damaged tomatoes into a batch of marinara sauce. They were washed, picked over, cut up and shoved into the crock pot with olive oil, garlic, and fresh herbs from the garden (bay, oregano & rosemary).

Had a lovely luncheon of toast with ham & cheese, the last of the strawberries and a small pot of tea.

Decided to tackle a small plumbing job. Namely a broken service valve in the utility room, that I managed to undo the threaded fastenings of a while back, but that was jammed in place. None of the plumbers I contacted ever bothered replying, so a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. In this case, take a hacksaw to the damn thing. I've sawn the knob off (now, now, don't laugh!), and that gave me access to saw through the casing just above the valve mechanism. I stopped there as my knees and ankles began to protest, given I'm wedged under a worksurface next to the fridge-freezer.

I will saw through the thing under the valve mechanism, take that out, and then the theory is, that I can then remove the stubborn bits. The plan is to replace it with the equivalent push fit valve.

Brought the laundry in - it wasn't completely dry, so it's hanging up in the bathroom. Made a lovely pot of Polish beetroot soup.

Am now sat here listening to Ipswich v Arsenal in the EFL cup, and contemplating what to have for supper.
