Yes, you get repayments from people to whom you have lent money. But no interest, except for the interest in helping people.
Kiva emailed me recently to say I have received four repayments totalling about $8. I can now reuse that and it will be part of the next $25 loan I make. You can make any size loan you like, in multiples of $25.
Obviously some loans are not repaid, they call it "default". I think this might be approximatley 10% of my loans, but I often choose to loan to areas that are "underfunded".
You pay about $4 for each loan which covers their admin charges. I presume this also pays the wages of the support staff "on the ground" for each area.
They do not bombard you with emails, and you can send someone a gift card for them to start donating.
I would add that I have no direct connection to Kiva. It was a past member of this forum who told me about it.
