@Reynard Do you plant your Basil near the tomatoes to keep the bugs away? 🤔

Nope. Basil has to be kept on top of the wood bins, else the slugs decimate it.

TBH, I don't have a problem with bugs (am assuming you mean greenfly) on my tomatoes. Haven't used pesticides in years, and generally, the good bugs take care of the bad ones.

Rain stopped and a nice sunny day since about midday but still a N wind tho' not as cold as I expected.

Argyll & Bute council have decided to replace the seafront railings all summer from early June. This means large sections of parking will be lost temporarily and in the long term when they put in the higher bit on the sea wall the street will be narrower. The bit that has already been done is so narrow that it is effectively single lane with an accidental wide bit on a bend where passing is possible. It is possible for two normal size cars to pass with a couple of inches clearance but few have the confidence for that. Delivery vans are wider and it is also a bus route.
There will be a short interval for the accursed car rally but restarting after.
Not only motorists will be affected as no ropes for running moorings will be allowed and no lying alongside the sea wall for maintenance. I started with a running mooring here as I had dinghys and also later small tenders as did a lot of of others.
The level of stupidity of the council is hard to comprehend unless the aim is to cause as much mayhem as possible.
It does not affect me too much unless I have to go to the pharmacy to pick up medication but those who shop in the coop and Tobermory Stores will be badly affected.

Looks as though you may have more tourists heading your way.

Wish these good bugs of which you speak would come in my direction and stop the little devils that eat the shoots of my beetroots as soon as they emerge.🐞🐛🦟🕷🪳🐜

Lovely luncheon of two slices of wholemeal toast, one with filet americain, and one with cheddar and beetroot chutney, plus an apple, a banana and two :cuppa:

It is now raining, so I shall take the car to do the errands. While I'm at it, I will stop at a local garden centre to see what they do in terms of herbs. I am in need of basil, sage and parsley. I lost the majority of my parsley in the two cold snaps that we had.

My triffids tomato plants look a lot happier for having been potted on and put outside on the drive. I had to stake up the shirley and the moneymaker.

We use to pot on ones like the at the nursery planted nice and deep in 2L pots. Saved them going to waste plus the price went up.
It also allowed customers to buy big finished plants ready for the patio. You use to be able to knock them out the pot after a week and see the growth rate. When I grow from seed I always pot on up to last set of true leaves. Give's you much better plants and root system.
when I grow any it's Alicante for me i've a soft spot for them. My dad use to grow them so learned all about tomatoes on them.

What you think is eating them? sounds like slugs if almost all is gone. You could give organic plant protectors sprays a go. Unlike pesticides they also benefit the plants. https://www.grazers.co.uk/
I've used the Lily beetle one on a customers garden and it work a treat.
Sharpe sand or gravel round them acting as a barrier helps keep them at bay too.

Good morning.

I've been here over an hour and got nothing useful done, as a new client has arrived for another department and I'm the only staff member.

Said client can't speak English or German which is making communication difficult. Fortunately the manager speaks the client's native language, so I'm waiting for reinforcements.

Also there was supposed to be a rail strike today. This has been cancelled but Deutsche Bahn have apparently decided that the fact there might have been one means they don't have to bother running any trains.

To be fair to DB, trains started running again over the day and things were getting towards normal by the time I finished work.
