We have had the base units for our office PCs swapped out for new and much smaller units today. It was supposed to be done last week, but nobody told us so no arrangements for alternative work stations had been made so it got postponed. The cock-ups continued today in totally expected Civil Service fashion - the new units connect to the monitors with HDMI cables only, while half of the old units had VGA leads connected which nobody had checked and the IT bod only had a dozen cables with him. Then there was some problem hooking up docking stations for laptops. Finally, it was realised that the new PCs ran a new install of Microsoft Edge and no previously saved favourites or passwords carried over which hadn't been anticipated. :banghead: I'd like to say I'm surprised, but this happens every time.

Twas on the Monday morning......

Twas on a day early in March 2020 the gas man cometh to fix a leak on the main road past the top of our estate. They were there for three months trying to find it, then a month after they left they were back again for a few more months, then again, and again.....

Their problem was that the gas was leaking into the BT cable duct and then travelling for hundreds of yards up & down the road, effectively disguising the location of the leak. They started off poking sniffer probes down boreholes drilled in the road, then digging holes looking for it, then they seemed to be just speculatively replacing sections of pipe and waiting to see what happened.

By the time they'd finally gone for good it was January 2022, all but two years.

Dull drizzly morning but no wind so far.
Wakened to a cheery text from Calmac. They are on a reduced service so amended timetable and due to demand foot passengers are recommended to book. As an aside since the boat is crammed only one toilet will be working.

To add to the joy most of the north of the island seems to have had no post and Dervaig has had no postie for over a week.
According to ex posties the service is a shambles and the ex Dervaig one has had about a different van every day as they arrive in an unroadworthy condition. He was not willing to risk his licence driving them.

The world is falling part and I am off with no confirmed appointment since my appointment letter has not turned up and the department never answers the phone and has not phoned me back.
