I had a busy day yesterday, driving to St Ives park & ride, riding alongside the Guided Busway through Cambridge to Grantchester Meadows then a 6 mile walk with my sister. Food was eaten at The Orchard Tearooms in Grantchester. (Nice, but overpriced IMHO).
I folded up the Brommie and caught the bus from Trumpington park & ride to St Ives as I didn't have the time to ride back.
A most enjoyable day!

It's a warm and mostly sunny day here chez Casa Reynard.

Apologies for my absence yesterday, but I made marmalade and vanished into the rabbit hole that was an archive of stock car photos. I have learned not to rely on the tags and keywords to search, as most of the images don't have much in the way of ID, or if they do, it's not always reliable. It's just easier to browse and then take a closer look at the photos that catch my eye.

This morning I have been dealing with what I pulled out of there yesterday. I have managed to narrow down the gap that the car I am interested in fell off the radar during 1983 by nearly two months - from mid-May to early July, as there is a picture of it being raced at the Ipswich Spedeweekend which always takes place first weekend in July. However, that still leaves a six month period where it is unaccounted for. However, even this small piece of evidence is a good thing, as it strengthens the case that I am building as to who bought the car and why.

I do not think I will be popular in the stock car community, as it's looking like I will be turning the car's accepted history in this timeframe completely on its head.

Had a lovely luncheon of filet americain on toast, followed by assorted fruit and two :cuppa:

Letting that lot tamp down before I go out and do some gardening.

I have this mental image of @Reynard as a sort of Miss Marple/ Clint Eastwood hybrid, relentlessly piecing together all the evidence and using a combination of sleuthing and inspiration to solve the Stock Car mystery 🤔

Out of interest where are you actually going? Scotland covers a lot of ground.

Shall I post my it ! My er um ! What and where we are going ?

Apparently there is a hotel in Scotland where we will stop overnight . We will then travel North through Highland scenery and Locks , stopping at Pitlochry and Inverness to Thurso. We stay there for 3 nights to recover! Next we go to Wick and John O' Groats. Next day we catch a ferry to Stromness on Orkney passing some old chap called Hoy! We have a day there to visit Skara Brae and Ring of Brodgar, an old POW camp, and Scapa Flow.
The next day we pop to the Shetlands to visit a Viking village and Scalloway Castle , and Lerwick to catch a ferry to Aberdeen. From there we travel to Braemar and Glenshee to our stop for the night .
The next day the survivors travel home .
We shouldn't invade your island unless we get lost .

An odd day; I've driven to work as I'm coughing a lot and didn't want to risk things.

So ... I brought a bike frame with me as I need my university's workshop to help remove a stuck bottom bracket (they have a big vice). All good there.

But .. I also have my Dawes Giro Zwift bike in there, which is being dismantled. I also need help removing the CeramicSpeed bottom bracket in that as the external threads are damaged. So, I unlocked it and removed the pedals, the crankset and the wheels. However, a lady was sat in her car watching me - I'm guessing also onto security.

Sadly son no. 2 was hit by a van, then it's trailer, this lunch-time, who then drove off without stopping :cursing: . The driver had apparently been revving his engine behind my son despite him going 15mph uphill. Fortunately two lorry drivers stopped to help and both have offered dashcam footage. He's battered but nothing seems to be broken, just shoulder / hip / knee scrapes. I drove to meet him and got our LBS to look at the bike - it's got a scraped DuraAce RH shifter, cracked carbon saddle and paint scrape. If we can get the driver's registration it'll be reported and claim for those, plus damaged clothing and injuries will go in. I've some sympathy for someone who stops, none for a deliberate hit-and-run. [DuraAce shifter, saddle plus a re-paint of the damaged area in it's bespoke paint is probably £1000, plus £300 for the NoPinz university jacket and 3/4 bibs, then injuries]. He doesn't want to go to hospital but I've got photographs of the injuries and may take him later / tomorrow to be checked over.

I feel for your son and his injuries and damage to his bike .
It also goes to show that the lorry drivers stopped to offer assistance and that we should get on with other road users . If I hear a lorry waiting behind me I will pull over and stop to let them pass. I usually get an acknowledgement from them . At times it allows me to take a breather.

A bit of a curates egg tour that.
The locks will be on the Caledonian Canal tho' I don't see you being near there.
Not impressed with Pitlochry myself as full of tourist tat and you will get the full fake "Scotch" treatment.
Thurso I suppose will be a base for day trips. Note John o' Groats is not the furthest north on Scottish mainland. It is Dunnet Head a few miles west of there. John o' Groats pier shop was a very good customer of ours.
The trip to Orkney is interesting. The POW camp is probably the Italian Chapel which is very impressive when you consider it is made from two Nissan huts and some otherwise rubbish. Best visited at a quiet time for reflection but not possible in your case.
Midnight start for ferry to Shetland which is more interesting IMO.
My brother lives near Scalloway so I know the area quite well. I once cycled for two hours from his house and came back in about 20 minutes without even pedalling. It can be quite windy.
I like Lerwick and if I was quite a few years younger would seriously consider a move.
Breamar and Glenshee are again tourist orientated but I suppose that is inevitable.
You are not really seeing much of Scotland but you should have an interesting trip all he same.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Hospital visit done with son no. 2 - just soft tissue damage.

They didn't seem too bothered until he winced a bit when his hip was pushed. Then they saw the scrape, missing skin and decided on an X-ray pronto with the question "why didn't you come yesterday?"

He's also reported it to the police, who hopefully will chase up the dashcam footage. If they don't do anything at least he's tried.
