Remote timer for the pond pump is not working.
The instructions are in chinglish and less than complete. Also it doesn't seem to work whatever I do. It was struck by lightning last winter. Could be a clue.

My choice is, replace time switch (£14.00) and delivery time from China. Or put an on off switch in the circuit.
Then have to switch the pump on & off because the battery and solar panel are not big enough to run it 24/7.
Choice between expense and convenience.
Requires action either way.

Electrocuting toaster deposited on the small appliances recycling bin in B&Q then next door to Aldi where I went to swop my glasses only to find no case. Was a worrying walk home thinking had they gone in the bin with the toaster but thankfully found siting on a chair at home. Definite westerly head wind noticeable just walking.

I thought I'd forgotten to pack my bike tools.

But I hadn't.

A warm and occasionally sunny day here chez Casa Reynard.

Slept well, and have taken advantage of the day to do a nice spot of gardening. The eight tomato plants I bought yesterday have been potted on, as they came in these ridiculously tiddly pots. Both the Tumbling Toms and one of the Alicantes already have flowers, but the two beefsteak plants are still rather small, so they've been put up on top of the wood bins where it is more sheltered.

Also took the loppers and carried on tidying up the large mulberry tree - some of the branches are quite low to the ground and need to be cut back so that I can get the mower underneath. Have done as much as I can without needing to reach for the chainsaw, but it already looks a LOT better.

Now sat listening to Arsenal v Brighton. It is almost half time, so I shall have a nice :cuppa: and a salted caramel mousse.

Rain stopped and a nice sunny day since about midday but still a N wind tho' not as cold as I expected.

Argyll & Bute council have decided to replace the seafront railings all summer from early June. This means large sections of parking will be lost temporarily and in the long term when they put in the higher bit on the sea wall the street will be narrower. The bit that has already been done is so narrow that it is effectively single lane with an accidental wide bit on a bend where passing is possible. It is possible for two normal size cars to pass with a couple of inches clearance but few have the confidence for that. Delivery vans are wider and it is also a bus route.
There will be a short interval for the accursed car rally but restarting after.
Not only motorists will be affected as no ropes for running moorings will be allowed and no lying alongside the sea wall for maintenance. I started with a running mooring here as I had dinghys and also later small tenders as did a lot of of others.
The level of stupidity of the council is hard to comprehend unless the aim is to cause as much mayhem as possible.
It does not affect me too much unless I have to go to the pharmacy to pick up medication but those who shop in the coop and Tobermory Stores will be badly affected.

I was sort of hoping that this thread would be full of reports about malfunctioning technology. But it seems to be just me.

Using Google maps for a 20 minute journey from Greenwich to the hinterlands of Welling this morning, I got 3/4 of the way there and then Google decided to give me directions to Land's End. Neither I nor passenger could trace anything we'd said that might have been interpreted as a voice command, which, by the way, I don't use.

Then later in the afternoon, I got phoned by a number - it turned out to be a number in Texas - which, when I answered it, connected me through to my mother in Greenwich. And she wanted to know why I'd called her. Indeed, that was what I wanted to know as well. So how does a third party manage to phone and connect 2 different numbers simultaneously?

Even odder, the sun came out and it turned into a gentle, warm afternoon.
