Listening to a cuckoo

we have a pileated woodpecker whose call sounds like the Woody the wood pecker cartoon character laughing. as a child we had a cuckoo clock. I'd ask you what that bird sounds like in real life, but I guess I can utube search it. wow, they really sound like the classic clock!

yet another road trip today. this time to Wifey's Mother's newest living unit, actually her previous, to retrieve some small items. at least she's 1/2 as far away as my Mother. what are we gonna do w/ our weekends after our Mothers pass?

Scorchio chez Casa Reynard.

Slept quite well, and haven't done much this morning other than have a nice girly pamper session and water my tomato plants and do a bit of puttering around in the kitchen. My tomato plants are definitely loving the change in the weather. After soaking it under the tap yesterday evening, my new sage plant has perked up quite nicely.

Love having fresh herbs on hand. Had basil last night in my salad, and this morning, I picked some parsley and chives, chopped them up with a clove of garlic and mixed them into a tub of plain cream cheese. Other inhabitants in the garden are a small bay tree, a rosemary bush and a Belfast sink full of mint.

Anyways, I'd better have luncheon, as the Le Mans 24 hours starts in under an hour...

Back from Knaresborough, bit like a bike race you sit around for ages and then it's all over too quickly; just no helicopters! Found a nice shady spot on Castle Ings alongside a level side road which made remounting and pedalling off on the ebike that much simpler for it's normal Lidl visit.

Was a bit touch and go going, the easterly made the ride that bit longer than expected plus the crowds on the nominally still open roads resulted in walking pace often being neccessary.

Mr Tummy senior oversaw me making my first loaf of bread in his antiquated Panasonic bread maker. Obviously the proof will be in the eating but this looks to be a pretty good effort and I'm rather chuffed

The fun is getting the paddle out unless you are lucky and it stays in situ but normally its buried in the bread and only found when the bread knife strikes metal.

there, that's even smarter 👍 like the kind realtors use. just gotta remember the combination

@Mike_P - would a key safe be an option? My parents have one, just in case if losing their key and/or emergency access.

Key safes get a bad name in lots of places as they indicate short term lets like Air B&B places.

I planted a small bay tree some years ago. Never paid much attention to it so far a trimming was concerned anyway. It is now at least 12ft in diameter and the same height.

Muggy sort of day and very warm.
Sat in my garden for a while and the goldfinch appeared again as well as a couple of chaffinches who were feeding on the seeds of a plant I cannot identify. Probably of the dock family but my plant id skills have been lost and cannot find anything like it in any of my books. I did 2 years university botany but that was over 60 years ago so forgotten most of it.
A neighbour has produced some signs to deter non resident parking after he came back last night and had to park on the carraigeway due to touroid in a B&B somewhere as apparently they appeared with suitcases and went off before anybody could chase them.
My last ultrasound results have appeared and my aortic valve is narrower than last time. Consultant visit in a couple of weeks to discuss this. Don't like the sound of it as it sounds like a new valve sooner or later.
