I believe there was a mechanical keyboard that punched out the cards, called, amazingly, a Keypunch. You just sat there and typed your program, very primitive, but the cutting edge, then.

There were, ranging from a machine that just punched the holes you told it to, to machines with a proper keyboard. We used both on the Euronet Packet Switching system in the late 1970s. And yes, someone did drop a tray of punched cards!

We saw 8 aircraft flying over in close formation towards Fairford this morning, an aerobatic team .

Thanks to all those who sent good wishes on my birthday.
Did nothing special. Took the trike out for a short run but there was little pleasure in it due to too much traffic and a looming thundercloud which meant max pressure to get back as fast as possible. It did not rain in the end so went and sat at the marina watching the antics of the touroid.
In the car park they come out of a parking bay and look for the exit.
"Look there is an arrow with the head pointing towards us so follow where the arrow comes from. Got to be the right way and why are those idiots coming towards us and blocking our exit?"
In the past when my wife was alive we went out somewhere special for anniversaries but now there is nobody and most of my friends have died so just did my usual today.

MV Isle of Mull has been off all day due to an "onboard facility pipework problem." This seems to mean somebody has blocked the toilets again and the problem is now worse as the offending pipe has apparently burst with inevitable health concerns and an almighty stink.

Yeah, and it stopped off en route between @PeteXXX and @Jenkins , gifting us with a series of biblical downpours. At least I won't have to water the triffids.

Slept very well - overslept massively. Whoops. Still farting for England, but at least I don't look like Aunt Marge anymore. I've had a quiet day, largely spent working on the archive and reading.

The girls have been fed, and it is time to feed me.
