A grey and rather raw, bitter day here chez Casa Reynard.
Slept OK-ish, but knowing I have to get up when the alarm goes off is a guarantee that I'm always awake well before. And I'd set an early one, as I knew I had to scrape the ice off the car. That was fun... NOT. Met up with a friend for our weekly walk, but it was truly miserable out, and despite us both being well wrapped up, we cut things short as it was unpleasant out.
I gave her a portion of the turkey madras I made last night, and four slices of black forest ham. She gave me my tupperware back (turkey stock) and a selection of jam jars with non-knackered lids. Stopped off at the book exchange on the way home. Dropped off a Delia Smith cookbook that I had double, but picked up four more to have a browse through.
Lovely luncheon of cranberry-topped pork pie, toast with black forest ham, an apple, a pear and two
I had planned on going into town this afternoon to furnish myself with some walking boots in Mountain Warehouse, but took an executive decision not to. The road outside is icy, and once over the level crossing, the main road into the village was quite wet. The latter is not gritted, so it'll freeze over again. I probably will leave that till the weekend - I have no desire to skate off the road and into a water-filled drainage ditch.
Not cooking tonight as there's stuff in the fridge that just wants warming up, but I will be making some coronation chicken (I bought four cooked chicken breasts for 58p the other day) and some smoked salmon mousse / pate thing. Of the latter, we enjoyed the batch I made so much that the parental has requested I make another.
Currently sat by the fire to warm up after re-stocking all the wood bins and emptying the trailer.
