We just woke up in a log cabin by a lake in a forest.

April 30th. House Martins flying over the fields and having mid air squabbles.
Not sure I have ever seen them this early in the year. Always a great sight.

I saw house martens in Norfolk on the 27th. There was a birder nearby so I asked him how long they'd been around. He replied that they've been around since before us.

Well, I have an induction today 'down the hospice' for volunteering at their latest shop (still to open).

'Problem is, I've been up all night and had a few beers.

The guy taking us (ooh err!) seems a little intense, so... Umm... Wish me luck! 🤣

Induction was fine, but most was a bit pointless as it was aimed at people working at the hospice, not the shop. Do we need to know about people with respiratory problems and so on?
They meant well though.

We are starting off a new shop, so we'll have to figure out things like best opening times, what sells best, etc.
It genuinely sounds like it'll be interesting at first!

It's been a pleasant day here chez Casa Reynard, albeit with the sun shining through a layer of hazy cloud.

Slept well - shedding the heaviest of the fleece throws off the bed made things more comfy. A busy morning, firstly in the kitchen, where I prepared a pasta ragu to simmer away in the crock pot. After, it was putting away all the rest of yesterday's shopping. I managed to get three loaves of bread into the freezer, which makes my life a LOT easier.

Lovely luncheon of a toasted onion bagel filled with smoked Polish sausage, half a large almond croissant (shared with the parental unit), plus some fruit and a :cuppa:

A much quieter afternoon, spent watching the snooker and rounding up all the stuff I need for tomorrow. All that's left to do is iron my white coat - meant to do it earlier, but the snooker overran massively. Not that I'm complaining as it's been a fascinating watch.

I have also acquired a lift to the show tomorrow, which will make it a far less tiring day.

Local elections all in for this neck of the woods. Mayor returned to the Tories, but vote very evenly split between them, Labour, Reform and the Lib Dems, only a few percentage points in it. I guess it reflects not just the political patchwork of the Cambs & P'boro area, but also that people were largely voting as they saw fit as opposed to voting tactically. Unlike last time, there was no "second choice" on the ballot paper for the mayor.

Cambs County Council has gone bigly Lib Dem from no overall control. Some pockets of Tory and Reform remain in Littleport and Wisbech, but otherwise, both had a fairly rough night here. Boundary changes have also had an effect.

Afternoon work visit and felt for half a dozen touring cyclist laden with panniers approaching not particularly fast the climb of Scarah Bank north west of Ripley. A typical non constant gradient and getting steeper as it goes on.
Post WAH a Co-op trek for a TV guide, oranges and ciabatta rolls.
