One comment!

It's [expletive deleted] Wimbledon.
It has blighted my life for the last 50 odd years.

Went out, well a bit more , with a girl. She was a teacher. There were 6 of us sharing a flat, in some middle class comfort.

I worked 0800 to 1600, in a cosmetic factory - managing nail varnish and perfumes production.
No commute and nothing to do outside those hours - except get on with a normal life. Generally involved beer.

Then July came and I came home smelling worse than a barber's cat with the latest batch of whatever it was we were ripping off that week. This was inconvenient, the next part of my day was a shower and hanging my clothes out in the garden to blow away the fragrance of the day. Mostly rip offs of what was the scent of the moment.
Generally at this point the ebb and flow left me with at least 2+ hours before i would have company. Also pubs did not open until 1700.

Anyway, I find that the teacher is established in front of the big [for those days] TV watching tennis. Not right.
Then there's a fortnight of this malarky to endure.

Fast forward 50 years. I'm still, just married to the lady and I still have this hateful period at the start of July. In the past I would leave for extended sailing trips with a rendezvous late in July with the lady.

Now I'm stuck in the same 10m squared zone and Wimbledon!
I think this is in the cruel and inhuman punishment category.

Next year I am going on an extended cycling Bummel - but where?

Windows open all round the house, back door open and it's still scorchio. Pints of cold soft drink and occasional raids on the ice cream tub are being taken at regular intervals.

On this mornings ride I got a cheery wave from someone in full Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe pro kit and top end bike going in the opposite direction which isn't the sort of thing you'd expect to see on a south Norfolk back road. I've had a look on Strava Flybys and it turned out to be an ex pro cyclist and Olympic silver medalist Dan Bigham.

Today was a much better day than yesterday. Quite sunny and no rain. Still very warm and humid though and hay fever is in overdrive despite taking my tablet.

I was in the office today. Feels like I have never been away. Sometimes wonder how I ended up with this job! There's a rumour our supervisor will be moving on soon. That will be number four this year. I wonder what we do on them!

I did some grocery shopping on the way home from work as I needed to re-stock on some things.

I've been doing some writing for my blog but my brain is fried after work so will continue on a later date.

Are you sure it's not secretly the DADA post at Hogwarts?

Just thought of the ultimate solution in the on going battle against the evil forces of hay fever :boxing:
If I wear a scuba suit complete with mask and air tanks, I'll have clean air with zero pollen and I can't physically rub my eyes should they itch!
Only downside being I may get a smidge warm in the full kit, however I'd obtain some cool points by sounding like Darth Vader all day
Or something like this!

Now sold with the air tank on a harness, akin to that of a large rucksack.

Heat much worse in southern Europe

“Admissions to hospital emergency units in parts of Italy have risen by 15-20% in recent days. The majority of patients are elderly people suffering from dehydration.”

”In Portugal, temperatures hit 46.6C in Mora”

We hit 35 the other day1, but it rarely gets to 40 around here, and less so now than in the old days. Western U.S., past the Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas and Missouri state boundaries, you reach a line geographers call 20/2000. Less than 20 inches of rainfall a year, and much of the landmass is above 2000 ft elevation. That is where the real heat happens.
