It's been a pretty warm day here chez Casa Reynard, but mostly overcast.
Did not sleep well (too hot!). The morning's tasks were dictated by fruit. Had some plums and a few greengages that were becoming overripe, so those were washed, quartered and stoned for another batch of powidła. Fruit made up to 3lbs with some of the last dessert plums left clinging to the trees in the garden. There's still enough left on there for another crumble, but that fruit is still green.
Also, the Red Victoria cooking apples I picked in the community orchard were showing signs of not keeping - the catalogues say up to 4 weeks in storage, but in my experience, a week and a half is pushing it. Fortunately I'd only picked half a dozen. One of them was past it, but three have been turned into apple pie filling alongside a few Jolly Millers. Those are another early-ish cooking apple, but less acidic and have better keeping qualities than the Red Victoria. I am about to make the pie.
Tea and toast for luncheon, and spent some time editing a bit of writing.
Then at tea time, off to Tesco to clear the shopping list. Mostly things like pasta, vanilla extract, cat treats and bubble bath, as well as bread, milk, butter and yoghurt. Got majorly lucky on YS, and came home with an organic lamb leg (thinking of keeping it for Christmas!) and two and a half kilos of bacon. Plus some bread from the bakery.
And yes, there *WILL* be bacon sandwiches!
