A dry start here chez Casa Reynard, but the rain arrived around half two and it's been wazzing it down ever since.
Slept well - the warmer bedding's made a big difference. Went for a nice gentle pedestrian bimble around the local nature reserve, and I am now 300g of blackberries to the good. They will be washed and frozen. I also had another sniff around the community orchard. The last of the Wayside and Histon Favourites aren't worth picking - they're full of codling moth holes which means they won't keep - but I did help myself to the last of the Morley's Seedlings. I am now well stocked up with both ready-for-use and storing cooking apples. They should last me till about April or May.
There was a lady with a little girl in the orchard picking apples. They were looking for dessert apples but didn't know which varieties were which, so I gave them a brief tutorial and directed them towards the Thoday's Quarrendon. They are SUCH a nice apple - crisp, juicy, not especially sweet, but with an intense tangy flavour. The little girl was so happy to be picking red apples!
