Pork, apple and orange casserole in the oven smelling gorgeous. Will become a pie filling in a couple of hours

A dry start here chez Casa Reynard, but the rain arrived around half two and it's been wazzing it down ever since.

Slept well - the warmer bedding's made a big difference. Went for a nice gentle pedestrian bimble around the local nature reserve, and I am now 300g of blackberries to the good. They will be washed and frozen. I also had another sniff around the community orchard. The last of the Wayside and Histon Favourites aren't worth picking - they're full of codling moth holes which means they won't keep - but I did help myself to the last of the Morley's Seedlings. I am now well stocked up with both ready-for-use and storing cooking apples. They should last me till about April or May.

There was a lady with a little girl in the orchard picking apples. They were looking for dessert apples but didn't know which varieties were which, so I gave them a brief tutorial and directed them towards the Thoday's Quarrendon. They are SUCH a nice apple - crisp, juicy, not especially sweet, but with an intense tangy flavour. The little girl was so happy to be picking red apples!

A late luncheon was had of the last of the tiger baguette, the last of the meatloaf, an apple and a :cuppa:

Now sat down watching thirty ladies playing with a funny-shaped ball.

The wind and rain continues. I did venture out for about 25 miles on the single speed and got utterly soaked. My shoes were full of water. Some of the gusts of wind almost brought me to a standstill.

I will be going out for some live music soon. In the meantime, I am just catching up with some essential reading.

A very mixed day.

The morning sunshine was quickly replaced by grey cloud cover, later with added drizzle (timed at 14:00 as predicted) and then proper heavy rain. Quite cold thanks when exposed to the breeze as well.

Racing was a bit disjointed with two early red flags, so it was a good job they started early as the eventual finish time wasn't far off the originally timetabled one and the heavy rain finished the race about 10 minuted short of the 4 hour mark due to the lack of visibility in the spray. The on track action was great though and I'll be back next year if it runs again (which it should with around 110,000 people through the gates over 3 days apparently).

A thoroughly wet and difficult drive home with constant rain, varying spray, cars with too bright/complete lack of lights and still wet shoes & socks. Everything got hung up to dry when I got home about four hours ago and I'll sort it out in the morning.
