Itching to get back on my bike's

It's been a funny ol' grey , damp day

It's been a raw, chilly and grey day here chez Casa Reynard, but we escaped the worst of the rain.

Did not sleep well, as my back was protesting a day spent on my feet yesterday. Had the usual choresy morning, along with the addition of doing a load of laundry, and dealing the two half kilo bries I bought just before Christmas. They are now perfectly ripe. So each got cut into three, packaged, labelled and shoved in the freezer.

Had a lovely luncheon of toast, brie (well, I had to do a taste test!), an apple, a tangerine and a :cuppa:

After, I ironed my white coat, rounded up all the bits for my judges specials for Saturday, and then split a load of firewood - larger chunks, and then lots of diddy little bits to use for kindling.

Then it was time to pop out to Tesco. I needed fuel for the car, plus bread, milk, butter and onions. I timed my appearance for final reductions, and I certainly didn't come home empty handed. Had a lovely chat with the lady who does the reductions, and found out that the vast majority now doesn't go into the reductions at all - it simply gets boxed up for charity.

Yes, it's a bit frustrating for those of us who are regular yellow stickerers, but I sticker as a lifestyle choice, not as a result of need. And I know from a friend who used to do the charity food parcels, is that there's a lot of need in this area. So knowing it's going to a good cause and not going to waste does take the sting out of t

Still, I came home with a small "finest" smoked gammon, oyster mushrooms, three packs of shelled whole hazelnuts, three dented tins of baked beans, a can of tuna in spring water, a can of sweetcorn, four individual little cartons of apple juice (I use them for braising red cabbage), two bags of Christmas pretzel thingies, a litre bottle of Italian (Il Casolare) cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, two "finest" sourdough breads (one brown seeded, one white), two packs of rolls ( one of ciabatta and one of ancient grain), various assorted pastries, and a job lot of hot cross buns, all of these from the in-store bakery.

Lovely supper of soup, a turkey & avocado sandwich and a vanilla crown pastry.

The evening was spent watching the snowboard Big Air qualification from Milan-Cortina.

I am obliged to attend a conference under a 3 line whip
Three of us, 1 appointed a 2 elected have to be there. Have to go and bat for our bit of the empire
It will mean more work for everyone except those organising the affair. Sure that the budget will be cut too.
Use less do more and all that.
My heart sank when I read in the joining instructions that I should bring my lunch and cup or mug. Parking will be a challenge too, despite what the notice says.
I must be good and sit on my hands, not ask awkward questions, snigger or sigh cynically.
