Yes, usually it's free for a limited time, often 90 minutes, and after that it functions like a paying car park. There's a car park at a shopping centre in Charlton where the free parking time is reduced on match days when the local Charlton Athletic are playing at home. I managed to learn this by rather expensive experience. It can be a bit of a trap at big spread out shopping centres which can take a while to get around and, after all, who makes a mental note of what time you entered the car park when you're out for a shop?

Yep.. Most supermarkets have time limits, as do retail parks, especially in town centres. As @deptfordmarmoset says: free, then a ticket if you don't follow the time based rules ie: longer for disabled if you give your car reg number to them.

Once (as is often the case nowadays) the supermarket gives up control of their carpark..as Asda did some years ago I Peterborough, signage goes up etc etc.
I've known it for a long time (the 2 hour limit here) but just lost sight on the day.

Very nice ship actually. Very smooth and quiet inside. I've had my dinner onboard. Calmac do much nicer food than P&O.

I'm not overly impressed with their bike storage system where they hang them up by the nose of the saddle. Not ideal as a Brooks user as it flares out the leather.

There's a Swiss registered modern Ferrari down on the vehicle deck. I saw it driving on. Someone has more money than I!

Am I odd for saying I'd rather cycle through the Hebrides than drive a Ferrari through them?

Recumbent does not fit that. I travel with my own bungy cord if taking ferries. Usually bungy to some rails or such.

All my previous Calmac trips just involved leaving the bike in the corner of the vehicle deck. I suppose they could fall over in heavy seas, but it never happened to me. This must be a new system on this ferry.

P&O put cyclists and foot passengers on a bus to board the ferry and bike and luggage stay on the bus at sea. That wouldn't work very well for a recumbent either.

And let's face it, the point of driving a Ferrari is to demonstrate they have enough cash to drive a Ferrari...
