P&O put cyclists and foot passengers on a bus to board the ferry and bike and luggage stay on the bus at sea. That wouldn't work very well for a recumbent either.
The Dublin - Holyhead one is now a funny one. At Dublin end they just let you ride down to the ferry and get on before the cars , lorries etc. From Holyhead the bike went on a lorry , then you took bus, and waited for bike at Dublin end. Coming back I got on a bus Holyhead end, with my recumbent and stood with it, till got off!
Then ferry companies wonder why those of us on bikes do not know the process when it seems to be made up differently each ferry company and even time.
