A hot and sunny day here chez Casa Reynard.
Slept well enough after an interrupted start. Still feeling a bit under the weather today, but not as grotty as yesterday. So downstairs, fed the cat, made a
and took it upstairs to do some writing while keeping an eye on the athletics.
Did the chores at a better hour, but have largely had a quiet day. The weekly dog walk was cancelled on account of it being too hot. Watered the planters, picked some more tomatoes and had a rummage in my supply of crafting odds-and-ends. I'm a lot like
@Andy in Germany and like to keep "useful" bits.
Had a lovely luncheon of avocado on toast, greek yoghurt with apple & honey, and a small pot of tea.
The early chunk of the afternoon was spent using the bits I'd dug out to make a viewer to watch the eclipse, as I wasn't going to pay through the nose for, or waste my time trying to find some glasses. I extended the focal length to get a bigger image, and made an adapter so that I could put the viewer on my tripod.
Viewer made, I tootled off to the community orchard. Picked some plums for myself, and picked some apples and plums for my friend Linda, and dropped them off at hers on my way home.
Was back in time to settle down to watch the eclipse. Set up with tripod and chair just outside my hedge, with a view of the railway and right across the fen. Not a cloud in the sky, so absolutely perfect.
It went really silent. The light quality was really weird, and the temperature dropped. And as the light faded, hundreds upon hundreds of emperor dragonflies came out and were zooming around above the water in the nearby drain. That was just as spectacular as the eclipse itself. And then, as the sunlight began to return, the first noise I heard was a partridge, shouting from underneath a nearby bush.
Had an evening watching the athletics.
A lovely supper of pasta with a sauce made from home grown tomatoes & basil, and topped with plenty of parmesan.
A quiet remainder of the evening is planned.
