Yet another day of constant cloud cover, rain and only 1kWh of electricity generated by the solar panels. Good job I set the system to import enough at the cheap rate overnight to charge the battery for the day's usage. Add in to that it being quite cold today and the long hot summer seems a long time ago.

An unexpected snooze was had late afternoon - I was sat on the sofa reading and kept dropping the magazine as a micro-sleep started so I just gave in, laid down and had a proper 20 minute kip.

Despite the addition of the TVs cardboard packaging, it's still not worth putting the paper & card recycling bin out front for emptying in the morning, so all that's left for the rest of the day is to make the evening's hot chocolate and carry on reading.

It's been a grey, chilly and very soggy day here chez Casa Reynard.

Sleep was middling. Cat kept coming and checking on me during the night. Woke up ten minutes before my alarm was supposed to go off. So downstairs, fed the cat, made myself a :cuppa: and took it upstairs to do a bit of reading. No time for writing this morning, as met up with my friend Linda and her dogs for a nice walk around the community orchard and local nature reserve.

There was a light drizzle in the air, and I could have used some gloves. My rain gear kept me nice and dry. All four of us wore waterproof coats - two humans and two dogs. Linda and I had a good laugh, as our rain jackets match. Same brand and same colour, albeit a slightly different style. They were both charity shop purchases too.

We got lucky and got most of our walk in before the heavens opened. Had to can the plan of picking some quince pears, but I did stop off at the book exchange on the way home. Picked out a copy of "The Godfather" for myself, and a couple of railway books that I think a friend might like to have a poke through.

Did the chores on the return home. Scooped the litter tray, and cleared the ashes from the grate. The coals were still glowing, so decided I could just as well build the fire up while I was at it. A nice fire is comforting on such a miserable day.

Had a lovely luncheon of two slices of sourdough toast, one with avocado, one with roast pork & mustard, greek yoghurt with blueberries and honey, and a small pot of tea.

Had a quiet afternoon reading, and then at tea time, popped out to run some errands in town. Savers for a fresh supply of antihistamines, B&M for cat litter, Waitrose for a quick mooch that resulted in a pack of yellow sticker plaice fillets off the counter, Aldi for spreadable butter and peppermint tea, and then the Tesco petrol station for some go-juice for the car.

A comforting supper of broccoli & stilton soup, pasta with homemade pesto trapanese, and tunisian almond cigars to finish.

Spent the evening listening to Bayern v Arsenal. About to have a :cuppa: and watch MOTD.
