Doing the park-and-ride approach today with my Giant FCR wasn't sensible. It's a flat bar road bike, with 52x11 road gearing, and I had the front wheel slide out on wet cobbles

Cue an unceremonious dismount where I managed to get one leg down whilst the other slid sideways when clipped in.

Given I was going the wrong way up a one-way street at the time*, with police at the other end watching, at least I provided them with some entertainment.

* It's one way plus an opposite cycle lane for 90% of the cobbles, then just stops as it directs cyclists over a bridge south-wards. Where else was I supposed to go?

sounds like an urban battle field

Oil heater ....ordered from Amazon ... On their free non Prime delivery currently saying Saturday ...Be unusual if not earlier
Turned up this afternoon!
Post dinner shifting of a chest of drawers needed. While the bottom drawer exposed the mains socket the need to run the cable alongside in the gap to a unit meant it was simpler with that out of the way.
Needs to run for 2 hours ventilated so having checked it did start to warm up switched it off until tomorrow.

I try, I really do

went to a retail store & bought some boxers (U.S. men's underwear) Fruit of the Loom was the only brand they had & that sounded correct

tried one on the next day but it didn't fit right. compared to the boxers I have been using, turns out they are Hanes brand

went online & ordered a PKG of Hanes & it arrived in just a cpl hrs

will donate the Fruit of the Loom boxers to Goodwill, cuz the downtrodden need fresh, clean undies too

anyway, very disappointed in myself for not buying the correct boxers in some other retail store

Just been watching on youtube some interviews with the few members of Bletchley Park left. One come up that was about an American code breaker along with the interview it had bits from an American historian. Not one word about Bletchley Park from either of them , the historian even came out with "war would have lasted years longer if we had not broke the Enigma. Just who is we? the yanks broke nothing , even when they joined the war for 6 months they ignored our warning on U-boat attacks on US convoys.

The evening's hot chocolate has been had and, despite only being just over half full, the metal/glass/plastics recycling bin has been moved to the front of the house for emptying on Thursday morning.

I did get out for a walk before it got dark this afternoon, a little shorter than yesterday and much colder in the very brisk easterly breeze. Very little else has been done since then other than to plan a potential ride for Friday when the winds are forecast to drop.

When the waste food caddies are emptied this week & next, I wonder what percentage of the contents will be pumpkins?

A grey and chilly day here chez Casa Reynard, with a lazy easterly breeze.

Did not sleep well. OK, going to bed late didn't help. Brain wouldn't switch off, couldn't get comfy, and then had an episode of "too hot, too cold". Bleurgh. It was daylight by the time I dropped off. So sleep ended up being a four hour nap. Downstairs, fed the cat, made myself a :cuppa: and took it upstairs to do some writing.

The chores were done at a better hour. And other than that I've done very little.

Had a lovely luncheon of avocado on toast, a banana and a small pot of tea.

A quiet afternoon was had, then popped out at teatime to run the errands. Chainsaw dropped off at Ernest Doe for its service, then off into town. Had a quick fizz around Waitrose, but nothing of interest. I did grab a couple of their in-store papers however, as they are handy for lighting the fire. Thence to B&M for some sweets (treacle toffee & menthos mints) and pretzels. Last was Tesco. Part of Angel Drove is dug up, so had to backtrack and go the long way round.

Store was very unbusy as a result, and there was quite a bit to be had on YS. I picked up a pack of sausages, some chicken livers, bread and a box with two blueberry cheesecake buns. Cleared the shopping list, which included cat food, as it was on a clubcard offer. Still no sardines or chickpeas in store LOL!

Home to a big bowl of leek & potato soup and a couple of sandwiches with the very last of the roast pork.

Have listened to Slavia Prague v Arsenal, and am now watching MOTD.

We broke the Japanese diplomatic code, "purple" and enough of their military code to have a bit of a surprise waiting for them at Midway. In Europe, we relied greatly on your experience and technology in these fields. BTW, I believe Polish cryptanalysts had a hand in breaking enigma as well.
