having seen a lot of 'traffic cops' type programmes on telly, I'm amazed at the number of people who act like dicks when they are uninsured etc. So often, a car is pulled up for driver not wearing a seatbelt, or something very minor, and the checks show up the more serious stuff. If you want to get away with driving uninsured, I'd suggest exemplary behaviour at all times was the way...

Anyway, hoorah for the points and fine, assuming they make any difference to the twat's mindset.

I bet they don't show half the times when they're not insured .

Why was the passenger fined?

Did he admit it?

I always thought that it was the driver who got fined in cases like this- the same as if a passenger isn't wearing a seatbelt?

If it's for hitting someone out the passenger window I'd guess it's an antisocial behaviour thing rather than a motoring offence.

I'm very surprised that the passenger only got a fixed penalty as this is really a section 39 assault.

He should be charged & taken to the Magistrates for this !

The problem is that the police don't want the hassle & give fixed penalties instead of following it through. This means he can do it again & again and there will be no record of him doing any wrong !!

The police need to change their attitude over this as it's only creating more problems with thugs who think they can get away with this sort of thing.

Only £200 fine for having no insurance. I bet the fine is cheaper than taking out legitimate insurance cover and is why some people take the risk in not getting caught. It's hardly a deterrent!

Hope the car is crushed!

It's all means tested now. You can only fine something they can afford!!

If they provide no income, then an arbritary figure of about £200 is used.
