this song was written by Elvis Costello for Robert Wyatt. Costello released his own version of the song a year later (i think!)... and frankly murdered his own song... but then again, Robert Wyatt is a hard act to follow.

Not so sure about that. Chet Baker's trumpet on Costello's version is quite amazing.
