I got seriously into the Rolling Stones in my early 20's after punk rock died out and i didn't fancy all that New Romantic electric pop stuff. I saw them perform at Newcastle's football ground and Leeds Roundhay Park in 1982. I bought all their albums, and many books about the band. I gave up on them after about 10 years
Now i think they're way past their sell by date and quite embarrassing to watch.
In fact come to think of it they weren't that good when i saw them live. I suppose i was swept away with all the "Best band in the world" euphoria.
Around here it did/has. Blackburn's King George's Hall saw the Clash( 3 times), The Ramones, The Jam(twice)The Damned, UK Subs to name but a few. After they stopped the punk bands appearing we moved on.
In a box somewhere up in the loft is a Wishbone Ash album on cassette. I bought it because I heard one of their songs and thought it sounded quite good, not realising the band based their music on some sort of mystical hippy garbage.
Thin Lizzy I got into when they first appeared, can't stand them now.
