A milestone!! So to celebrate this occasion I started to bash the calculator (no, that's not a euphemism). It would appear that, roughly speaking, the following is true.

Since July (when I started riding to work on my bike) I have;

· Ridden a shade under 2000 miles (the equivalent of Lands end to John O'Groats about 3 times)
· Spent 118 hours in the saddle (about 5 days)
· Burnt 120,000 calories
· Lost the equivalent of something like 2.5 stone
· Saved appx £1960 on fuel
· Saved appx 150 hours of time (usually spent in a car)…That’s more than week in a car!!!
· Got fitter
· Got happier

However.......Over that same time, I have

· Driven the loud bike over 3000 miles
· Spent 90 hours on its saddle
· Burnt no calories doing so
· Stopped for latte's and Danish about 19 times and consumed 20,000 calories
· Munched through numerous chocky-bikkies (because "I CAN…I BLOODY CYCLE TO WORK!!") and consumed about 90,000 calories
· Put on the equivalent of something like 2 stone (nett loss half a stone!)
· Spent £3,500 on a new shiny loud bike
· Spent appx 226 hours on Cycle chat website
· Got wetter
· Got fitter
· Got happier

So in summary, not bringing the car into work has cost me £1500, saved me no time at all and only lost me about half a stone……………….But has made me much happier and fitter.

Phew, there had to be a reason!

Well done Batman!

p.s. can you do bulk mileage uploads to cyclogs? Like from a .csv?

Ohhh 1001

Yep, I did but had to go back and Edit a few afterwards (one or two were a little "ambitious".)

I made the mistake of saving as an excel and then sending which caused a delay and a headache for the cyclogs team...but they still inputted it for me.

be sure to use the bulk upload csv page (it looks like excel but is a web based version i guess.)

now then, where will 1002 be?

Firstly, HUGE congratulations Jonny at reaching that milestone. As we "signed up" in the same month I saw you as a guage for a while at how many posts I should aspire too, but it got too depressing when I didn't have as many witty or profound things to say as you did so I gave up on that quite quickly !

On the lack of car costing you £1,500 (I'm not sure about your logic here, but I'll go with it ) did you include the amount you save in congestion charges in your initial calculation?

Next year, unless you buy another shiny new loud bike, you'll be "quids in" so this year was all about investment!!!

A big well done too at all you did manage to achieve this year with Chitty and the loud bike. All those calories, all that stress release and feeling fitter and happier too! Christmas obviously came early for you!

......

As the Loud bike cost around £3500 and I saved around £1900 in fuel (the company pay the congestion charge for me) by riding with Chitty I was left with a £1500 hole in my pocket.

but as you say, the next 6 months will show a positive return on my investment and then the sky's the limit (::translation::- "then its time to spend some more cash on bikes!!!")

It's snowing here!! so Xmas has indeed come early, just off for our office bash now!!
