This illustrates a serious problem with the way we work our roads. People are excused all sorts of stuff on the basis that it wasn't deliberate.

Not trying to excuse but more trying to understand why this happened.Do you want me to dig out my Range Rover video,it wasn't deliberate but it was bloody horrendous at the time.

I know. I am sorry and there is no easy answer. It seems we are always going to be at the mercy of someone else. We will never be able to do the right thing.

I know, it's a bugger isn't it . I just want to be able to get to work in one piece but then I could get run over as a pedestrian or the tube/bus could crash or blow up. Nothing's ever going to be 100% safe so I'm just going to have to do my best, minimise risks and just get on with it.

Anyone notice the police in the video? I'd be interested to know your thoughts on whether they may have seen this incident or not.

Sorry, I'm posting too much, I know. But another thing that's worth mentioning is that last year TFL drew up detailed plans to overhaul the layout of Lambeth Bridge and both sides of entry on to it, they undertook a lengthy consultation period then decided to ditch the idea entirely and not come up with an alternative.

From what I remember of the plans, I would not have been in the position I was last night if they'd been implemented (and they'd been due to be implemented by Nov 2012).

You aren't posting too much, you are quite rightly upset over this incident.I think I can remember two incidents at Blackfriars and one at Bow that were particularly nasty.I still remember them and have them on vid although I can't remember the date of the Bow one.

I rarely use Blackfriars north end now or the Blackfriars underpass because it's full of buffoons in a hurry.

Don't take it personally as a cyclist.

This type of collision - second car in line at a roundabout drives into the back of the first - is by far the most common type.

In other words, he would have hit you if you were in a car, a taxi, on a bus or driving a lorry.

A mate of mine did it - car into car.

I ticked him off for breaking the golden rule of motoring: look where you are going.

"The other driver should have pulled away," he said.

I ran into the back of a car doing exactly the same thing. The lady looked like she was about to move onto the roundabout so I started looking right to check for a gap. She changed her mind and stopped..I carried on going.

As I was on my bike and she was in a car no damage was done and to her credit (and my surprise) she blamed herself completely. It took me a couple of minutes to calm her down, persuade her I didn't need to go to hospital and point out that the collision was completely my fault.

Apologies, I wrote that poorly. I wasn't directing that at you specifically, just in general.

No worries.I try not to get upset on here anymore but think sometimes my point comes wrongly across also.
Not trying to defend motorists but understand these things happen.(it's more worrying when it's malicious or my pet hate stupid impatient close passes.)

The previous post reminds me I ran into the back of a car on my bike @ Maryland in 1987,cue a big handprint on his back window and I just about managed to stay on.I was riding a heavy BSA and a few years later it suffered a frame fracture and im convinced it was because of this incident.I had glanced behind and he stopped suddenly. My fault.

The other driver should have pulled away so I decided to give him a shove

At a roundabout or any junction, you shouldn't be looking ahead until you're the next person to go, makes sense surely?
That's s***e! I went over Lambeth Bridge last night about 6pm. That south side is even worse! Traffic was really manic and busy last night, I came through Holborn and Charing Cross Road and Whitehall and Parliament Square and wished I hadn't. Christmas traffic, tourist coaches, parties starting early, black cabs, delivery vans - all clogged up. Don't envy anyone having to cycle the west end on a regular basis at this time of year.

It was a relief when I got South of Vauxhall as it was pretty quiet.
South side of the bridge is a nightmare. Because that roundabout is light-controlled, all the traffic race to beat the lights so you've got a load of people RLJ'ing the 1st set of lights and woe betide you get in their way, then they block the middle of the roundabout because they can't RLJ the second set so when the lights go green again, it's a jam.

This week, I decided to get off my bike and use the underpass to cycle along Albert Embankment towards Vauxhall rather than go round that.

I hope both you and the bike mend up quickly and that you are both back on the road soon with minimal fuss.

I know that roundabout well, but I don't use it for the bridge, I am normally heading for the CS8 and coming from Parliment square.
When there was some road works around parliment square and the traffic was re-directed I used that same road as you are in the video, but I was always in the right hand lane in primary as I was taking the third exit onto the CS8.

Looking at the video, the driver was looking at traffic on the roundabout and not what was ahead of him, he saw the gap and just went for it...
I have seen other drivers do this to other cars... just in too much of a rush to get from one red light to another, I just don't understand it , does he not realise that we all just want to get home as well?

I have 2 rules of driving:

1. Drive at a speed which means you can stop in the distance you can see to be clear.
2. Never put your vehicle somewhere that your eyes haven't thoroughly checked first.

He broke rule 2.

Glad the only thing damaged was the bike.
