Its a good engine that, I have the same engine in my berlingo van and getting a true long term average of 65 (I do drive with economy in mind, never go above 50)
It has great MPG but I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole with how many we sell and have enquiries for. Yes there are a lot of them on the road being in Volvos, Fords, Mini's etc but they are very problematic.

Or a place to find a cheap fix or solution for common problems. I'm not too bad with spanners but car forums have saved me an absolute fortune over taking it into a garage.

Time for a moonie style deprogramming for this one!

Mrs D has had 5 cars with the PSA DV6ATED4 and its other-brand derivatives, never had a problem on a single one. 5 for 5 is good odds

You quoted the wrong post

There are a lot of them on the road but they are tempremental things once you get some mileage on them due to sludge build up. Have a look on Google as there is a wealth of information on this engine and its problems.

No worse than mother smokers. Honda, VW Group, BMW, have all made tragically unreliable diesel models in recent years, so there's no escape. Indeed, the DV and its derivatives is numerically perhaps the most common diseasel motor in Europe, so being similarly common for problems is not a surprise.

Indeedy deedy, injector seals, DPF, high pressure pumps, DMFs, DPFs are all reasons why I'd never buy a diesel from any manufacturer with more than 50k on it. In fact, I wouldn't buy a diesel at all but that's another story entirely.

BMW engine is reasonable but not up to what they used to be. Generally the bits that bolt onto it that cause most of the problems. Honda diesel isn't too bad but they don't drive aswell as others. VW group produce some great diesel engines to drive but the reliability on them is indeed as bad as the DV's.

Completely agree with that and I am doing the same. You have hit the nail on the head in terms of mileage. Anything with more than 50-70k on and the potential saving on fuel is blown out of the water with a couple of choice parts breaking. It really is a lottery.

You have hit the miles in it - you've had it 12-18 months ?? My folks have just got the Stepway top end model, and it was just over £10k with satnav and everything in it. Petrol engine that's in the Nissans and Renaults.. Bargains.
I have just bought the mid range stepway , the ambiance and i am really impressed so far , its only the .9 turbo but more get up an go than my old meriva and mrs ck who drives it the most has always like the cross over style cars .Interior is cheap but with kids i think it fits the bill perfectly .

When I was looking around for a car, a couple of years ago, I did look at Dacia's.
The Duster seemed to have a better build quality than the Logan, in my opinion.
The brand new Logan demonstrator seemed very 'tinny' and the interior plastics felt cheap. What put me off completely was the bottom of the boot was full of water and the floor mats were damp in the back. Obviously a sealing problem some where along the line. Not a very good advert.
The Duster seemed a better bet, but was just a little short of load space, with the seats down, for what I wanted.

We came very, very close to getting a Dacia Duster today. If only we hadn't put down a deposit on a Renault Megane yesterday!
It's a tough call, to be fair.
Same price, same engine but the Megane is a year older, done 30000 fewer miles, had a sat-nav built in and is £95 a year cheaper to tax.

There's a new Ruster out later this year.

I had cause to drive daughters boyfriends Ford Fester 138 Red Edition yesterday, and I did rather like it. But by heavens they're expensive, can't justify 17 grand on a car, especially a 1 litre.

New experience for the Logan!
Despite it's low tow weight limit and 1.5 Diesel it pulls dear Mavis along ok. Bit slow up steep hills, and a bit bouncy but hey, OK for a cheapie!
