That sounds more or less the reverse route from mine.
Tell me........I stuggled with the route from Dunham Massey to Pickford.
The only way I could find was....to the main roundabout (M56 junction) then the minor road towards Lymm. passed Ye Old No 3 (now closed) to the next pub...Thresher???? then left towards High Legh.
Do you know if there is a quieter route i.e. avoiding those busy roads & the motorway junction ?
From Sandiway, (actually the junction of the A49 with the A556), I just turned left and followed the A556.- Most of it has a cycle/footpath, so you are out of the flow of traffic. And I only came across two people at the time I travelled. (Left home 7.15 ish so was at Sandiway around 8.30.
Crossing the M6 was OK, which then left the part I was not looking forward to, which is the link road between the M56 and M6. May be I was lucky, but everyone gave me plenty of room.
At Mere I took the A50 to avoid the M56 junction.
There are a couple of routes which cross the M56, other than the junction. Reddy Lane I think does, which joins the A56 near Little Bollington. One I know is High Legh Road. It's at the Broomedge area of Lymm. Jolly Thresher on one side of the junction, small supermarket on the other. - Go up the side of the supermarket, either turning right if you have come from Lymm Dam, or straight over if you come up the side of the pub from Warburton Bridge.
If you follow High Legh Road you end up on the A50, or you can take a left at one of the junctions and it brings you onto the A556, opposite I think the Black Swan.
A nice loop is to follow the A50 to Knutsford. At Knutsford turn left and go to Tatton Park. Cycle from one end to the other, (no charge for bikes). At the far end, cross the road and follow it for a while. Take the first left and it brings you by the side of the Black Swan. Cross the road and it brings back to High Legh Road.
