So I set off at 8.30am this morning and after a few basic checks my boss and I rode a couple of miles from the office to the starting point.

I took with me a pack of energy sweets and 2 of the most disgusting energy bars available in the shops.

So any way, I think 55 miles is my comfort zone limit as the last 5 hurt like F*CK!

But I did it in 3 hours 41 minutes with 3 rest stops of around 4-5 minutes each and a section of around 200meters at the a rare breeds park where we all had to push. My Average was 15.5mph for the whole route which I am not sure whether its good or not.

But I did scalp a fair few riders (lost count at 45 ish, not counting children and ppl I classed as POB's) including some very fancy looking roadies and was only overtaken by my two colleages and a guy on a carbon Bianchi in the first mile.

I am sure there are those out there that complete these sorts of things a hell of a lot quicker but I am happy as its my first event and I still have a fair way to go with weight/fitness levels.:biggrin::biggrin:

Yeah your still in my bad books for chosing 50 over 87miles!:laugh:

Actually I do think 50 miles is my peak distance so I may do that one and like you said focus on doing it well!

Up to the 45 mile point (the last 15 miles had the walking bit and loads of cycle paths:angry::tongue:) my average speed was 16.2 so with a bit of training (and praying to get up that last bitch of a climb before returning to sevenoaks) I may b able to do a 50 with an average of 17mph.

What time are you aiming for then?

At the mo my best 50 is 2 hours 52 which should put me in the top 20:biggrin::biggrin:

But not sure if the course has steep hills etc, I rode to work the other day from Rainham to Lewisham and that was 42 miles av 16.5 but forgot my time 2 hours something.. that was some monster hills going in and out of dartford, I'm going to do that once a week so good for the training.

I think the 80 would be ok but the 50 is good for my first event.

See you there

well done! i done the 36 mile ride... could never of finished the 60 mile'r was my first ever ride.. and im a fat git (20 st) completed the 36 in 2hrs 13m i think it was pretty good really for me!

Really enjoyed the ride got a puncture around 5 mines from the finish it was so nice to see that almost every rider that passed me offered me help and asked if i had everything i needed -- thanks all!

I think i could do it a fair bit faster on a better bike, i was riding a Sarason Python.. big fat tires and heavy as you like... i have a GT Zum s1 now i think the Zum would of shaved a few mins off my time.

Im going to do the London-Southend ride.. 60 miles.. really not sure ill make it round that one but we will see.

Congratulations. Milestones like this are what keep us going.

I (along with several others) did a weekend ride with camp over on Sat and Sunday. On the return legs we elected to tak a slightly different route. The upshot was that we missed out on completing a 100 miles by 1.2 miles. I was sooo tempted to cycle around a road roundabout for a few minutes. Oh well I have the Lon Las charity ride at the end of this month.

Wooooo just completed a 40 miler in 2 hours 7 av 19mph, just one of those days felt really good, for me a bowl of pasta 2 hours before, or was it the 6 pints of beer and a cuban cigar I had last night;)

Book yourself in the 50 you know it makes sense:biggrin::biggrin:

as soon as you finish a distance you realise that you can go further, the time it takes starts to be the limiting factor

my LBS won't let me have any energy stuff, not even for the 120 miles for Dunwich, bananas and soreen has done me so far

Thats great news I frickin love that stuff!

Yeah the last 5 miles hurt but was pushing to keep up the average and was having a semi race as to keep my almost un overtaken record intact... But I probably could have done a bit more, planning the 140k sportive in september, if i do that will add on 13 more miles to do the 100 mile mark.

I managed my first 100km on Sunday, up & over the undulating hills of Devon in a not world record breaking time of 4hrs 7 mins & it has taken the best part of the week to recover!

That's called "Elation". It stimulates the adrenal gland.

For 207 of a 209 km Audax, its hard. But as soon as the end is in sight, the pain dissapears.
