Mine was inherited ( would have been c1962) from Mrs Palmer who lived a few doors up, on Eastgate Street, (long since demolished ) to make way for a new bridge crossing the River Ouse in Lewes.

She had a son me and my brother used to go round and play with his '0' guage Railway,(well I did brother was still a baby then) great big tin plate clockwork engine and carriages, his Mum used to make the best flapjacks I have ever tasted.

I was quite envious when my little brother arrived, so envious in fact that I once placed one of his terry nappies that had been airing on the fire guard (in front of the open coal fire) onto the flames causing a chimney fire requiring the Fire Brigades attendance.

Seem to recall going to bed with no tea that night.:laugh:
