My first commute in the rain!!

Did my first ride in the rain today! What an experiance! Waterproof jacket and bottoms did a good job! was nice and dry ish all the way!

Shoes/feet - soaked lol I thort my cyclying shoes might of been a little more waterproofed but clearly not! What can be done to stop your feet getting comletely wet?

My first off as well! Coming up to a crossing, uncliped the left foot, bike fell to the right lol it was prity funny thinking about it. I smacked my knee of the ground, and it knocked my break leaver/gear shifter out of possition and broke my bottle holder! I don't think any major damage though, bit of a scuff on the break leaver Is there any thing else I should look out for or can these newer bikes take a bit of a beating with out causing to much damage? It only just had its first free service on firday as well, just my luck!

I was very impressed with the bike in the wet though (SP Tricross), no front break judder that many seem to have with this bike. I might look into getting some mud guards now.

I am pretty impressed with myself though didn't ever think i would attempt to ride in the rain, just confirms that im deff addicted to cyclying!

The way I look at it, once you are wet... you are wet... just get out there and keep going. As long as you are not cold and don't let yourself get cold. This is where good cycling clothing comes into it's own, rain is no problem and can be highly enjoyable sometimes. (When one reverts back to a child and goes through a puddle legs up shouting WHHHHEEEEEEEE!!!!)

your shoes will be more waterproof when you have mudguards!

they sit in the spray from the front wheel when you corner.

with regards to falling off, just check for obvious damage or things being slightly out of alignment, you say you fell to the right, just check to see if the rear mech got scratched, if it didn't then it should be ok, if it did, just check everything appears to be in line - your gears will rattle a bit if its not.

I'm looking for wind/waterproof overshoes to combat this as I don't like wet cold feet. The rest of me seems not to be bothered by the rain to much. whereas a headwind, rain or no rain, is a bloody killer.

Nothing IME (unless anyone else has any bright ideas). Bring a spare pair of socks

as i've already said, mudguards do a great job, most of the water is thrown up by your wheels.

i don't have any problem with my shoes when biking and i'm sure they're no more waterproof than a normal pair of trainers.

I use waterproof socks. My shoes get wet and so do the outside of the socks but my feet stay nice and warm and dry. I wear mesh trainers with these - they get soaked but dry pretty quickly!

I had short sleeves on and only a slight waterproof, along with shorts .

Yeah I have a few pairs of watrerproof socks,they work great.Also use the old cyclists trick of sticking newspaper in your shoes when you get to work.

Looks like I'll have to invest in some waterproof socks! Can any one recomend a pair....

My shoes are still wet! I might try this newpaper trick lol I'd like to least start off with dry feet on the way home.

Keep changing the newspaper say every hour or so.The waterproof socks are quite expensive.I only have a few pairs.Unless anyone knows any better,I bought mine off of ebay.Another trick already mentioned is take spare socks or don't wear any if you know you are going to get soaked.

Whether your feet get wet depends on how heavy the rain is and how much surface water there is and how long you are riding. Mudguards and overshoes means you can be out there for a bit longer before they do get wet.

I like the waterproof sock and light mesh trainer idea, how are these socks for wind protection? If they can stop my feet getting cold, as well as wet, then I think that'll be the one for me.

I was wearing them in bed in the winter time,very nice and warm.
