My first overtake this morning

Ok, so admittedly he was on the pavement chatting to his "homies" and I could probably have walked past him - but when you're 18 stone and cycling is such a mission, I'm claiming it as an overtake (at least until the "Dubious Overtake Committee" state otherwise !)

Congrats!

Cracking a solo.
I had a lovely overtake performed on me this morning. I don't seem to see many other cyclists when I'm out and about and those I do always seem to serenely glide past me whilst I puff and pant my way up a hill. But this morning whilst tootling to work on my sons "mountain bike" (can't be bothered getting geared up for my road bike in the mornings) I was over taken on the flat by some one down on the drops, head down and bottom up looking like they were really giving it some beans to get in front, going by without a glance in my direction and to be honest not making much headway once they were in front. He did have panniers mind.
Maybe he was late for work or busting for the toilet, but I'm kind of hoping someone will start a thread about the scalping they performed on the bloke that was riding a BSO at super human speeds, I can but dream.

Congratulations on yours though ross, sounds like you done him good!

It was an epic moment I must admit. Might take my 5 year old out on his bike on saturday so that I can keep going past him to get my overtake count up - is that allowed ??

Nothing dubious about that Ross – an overtake is an overtake

I had what wasn't my first overtake (that happened a few weeks ago), but most definitely my favourite overtake on my way in this morning.

You see I've only been at this commuting lark for a few months, and last week my boss decides he's going to play the cycling-in game too. He approaches the local area from a totally different direction (and his commute is only half the distance), but our route is the same for the last mile or so. Anyway, I turn left before the last leg of the commute only to see a cyclist that fits his description 50 yards ahead. I catch up and sit far enough away not to get sprayed by his MTB tyres. He's completely oblivious that I'm directly behind him as we turn left again for the last long straight section before the office. He clicks into top gear and grinds on whilst I'm keeping my cadence up and enjoying the wind having shifted slightly tail-ward (it's been 20mph+ in my face for the last 55 minutes!). After a bus passed that was coming the other way, I decided sitting at 14mph was no fun, so casually move alongside, and with a glance towards my unusually red-faced and puffing boss I said "looking good, keep it up!", before accelerating up to my normal 22mph for that stretch. I know it's wrong, but that overtake put a smile on my face, and brightened up what had been a bit of a slog of a commute battling the elements

I had a good one yesterday. I see a man cycling everyday on an old racer but he finishes earlier than me and is usually miles up the roa by the time i see him. Anyway i must have made good speed for the first 4 miles or so and saw him much earlier.

I passed him in double quick time to which he dropped on my wheel and followed. Being 16 and a half stone but not to fat i struggle on hills. Anyway he overtakes me on the only largeish uphill part with a big grin on his face and a one up lol.

I manage to catch up a bit on the drops on the slight downhill bit untill we get on the flat an that is where my rugby background comes in handy. I fly past him when i get up to around 26 mph and sail away from him to which he never cought me up .

Just for you Mugshot:

I did a lovely overtake this morning. I don't seem to see many other cyclists when I'm out and about but this morning I saw some old guy puffing and panting up a hill on his sons "mountain bike"

So I got down on the drops, head down and bottom up really giving it some beans to show that guy who's boss.

I bet he felt might silly on his BSO as I sped on by.

PS I wasnt busting for the loo either!
