when you stop and hop of keep the brakes on so the bike doesn't slide. slide forward a little if on the road on in a tightish spot. if you have loads of room and no danger let the bike tip sideways and stick your leg out. the latter takes some practice, get your confidence first. id recommend adjusting the seat frequently for a month or so until you find whats right for you.

the casual sexism on this thread and the mechanics section in general is boring, offensive, shows the speakers unable to be equal on a social forum, rude, but above all it restricts women from getting good at cycling maintenance. cant the sexists just stop speaking in offensive undertones?

You are right, do what ever feels right to get yourself going.

Then, once you have confidence, do what's really right and raise that saddle.

Amazing what a slight adjustment can do.
