After much deliberation & with some trepidation I have just purchased & ridden for the first time in my life a road bike. (see pic no. 1 below)

I've just had a little spin on it & the gears aren't where they're supposed to be & neither are the brakes but I managed to get home safely!!

Picture no.2 will give you an idea of why the trepidation because if these bad boys in my spine are playing up tomorrow there may be a cheap bike on ebay next week!!!

Very good going.

Strava pr's have been demolished. I have a cannondale urban bike but have been talking myself into getting a road bike. Seeing your bike looking all shiny and new and seeing what you've done to your strava pr's, I'm almost ready to bite the bullet and get a road bike.

Old injuries are exactly why I ride an off-road bike with suspension and road tyres on it. My wrist is so mangled the vibrations on most road bikes kill me after a few miles.

hope they used ones from Wickes

Aah see, i was going to divert the conversation at that point with some juvenile jokes because i can sense it getting a bit icky from now on in.

I sympathise goonerobes as i'm a fellow spinal injury sufferer but i'm a big girl (my doctors diagnosis) when it comes to things like this.

I'm no medical expert but cycling IMO will gradually strengthen things but wether its too early or not (I trust you've seeked good medical advice on that). Good luck, its a nice bike and I hope you are very happy together
Thank HLab, I've been on a hybrid for around a year which is great but I was worried by the change in riding position which is why I chose the Roubaix. My LBS flipped the stem & set the bars as high as possible so when I'm on the tops (I think thats what you call it!) its still quite an upright ride.
