Did my first sportive today! The wiggle new forest spring 57 miles.

Was wet and windy and even snowed just north of ringwood! The headwind was grinding on the last 10 miles

Anyway, was dead chuffed to finish just inside the silver finishing time (by about 20 seconds!)

Crikey, I was going to do that one, but a painful infection in one of my wisdom teeth derailed my plans!

After last weeks very wet Cotswold spring classic I'm half glad I missed out on the rain, but I will sign up for the New Forest Rattler later in the year!

The wind was the worst thing as it always is. I'm really pleased with myself though, I need to remind myself that I only started cycling in October last

I have a 100 mile charity event in July, so I have a bit of work to do for that, but after this I have much more confidence than I would have.

The event was great as well, brilliantly organised and well sign posted. The 'free packs' were good to, although I wished I'd dumped half of it in the car instead of hauling it all around with me!

Good work, sir and well done on completing your first sportive.

According to The Rules, you and everyone who competed are officially bad*ss.

Did my first sportive in February - the Kentish Killer. Still feeling it, LoL. But really got the bug (just registered for the Orchid ride in June).

Nice one gents, did that one last year- I've done a few of the Wiggle series, they've always been good. Blissford's a killer, never made it up there myself.

To start with my milleage was only about 35 a week (I was 2.5 stone heavier and was mainly on the heavy hybrid) but I've upped it over the last 6 months to 100+ a week. I try to do at least a 40+ every fortnight, but always do at least 2 30's per week.

Recent prep was really keeping going, I did a 55 last Saturday, a 20 on Tuesday and a sedate 30 on Thursday, then nothing until today. Other than that nothing special. My time wasn't exactly lightning though, there were loads well faster than me. I did find the fact that I've ridden all through the winter prepped me for the wind and rain. There were lots moaning about the rainy wind and I felt lucky to be used to it.

My plan for the 100 in July is to do the same but extend the distances out. Making it an 80 once a month, and what are now the 30's will be 50's. Still a bit daunting though.

Was that 1 x 35 mile or a few that adds up to the 35

Ive got to 21 on my hybrid and it nearly killed me!!!, is it just keep on doing it until you are used to it.

To start with it was commutes that added up to 35. But my distances are now much more as I've found that this was the key in getting my body comfy for that amount of time. My limiting factor has always been aches and pains rather than legs.

I've done 40 on my hybrid, but it was the limited hand positions that made me go for a drop roadie. I sold my motorbike and bought a carbon which has taken ages to get used to. I now cycle everywhere, which has given me weather resilience.

Log into Kilo to Go, click on events (along the top), click on the event you did, then there should be a bit with a title "post ride event info"

Should be a link there.

It's not a Kilo to go event.

Did today's version, 86 miles, was a lovely ride but the headwind was brutal and really cold, feel a bit like a fraud complaining though as we had sunshine rather than snow!!

Blissford hill was good fun, but definitely tougher this year with a compact then it was last year with a triple!

Congrats on your first sportive, this event was my first last year and I'm well and truly hooked now.
