Thank you for your sympathy. A memorial service for the late lamented bell will be held at St Martins in the fields at midday today.

The eulogy will be read by Wee Jimmy Krankie and include a devotion to Our Lord Sheldon Brown.

"They even offered to call an ambulance, but I explained that given I was walking wounded and talkative, we should leave the hard-working ambulance crews free to deal with real emergencies like cyclists under buses."

As a paramedic in London - well done that man. You obviously are a true gent. We never mind coming out to any accident but resources are stretched and you thinking about not caling us out may very well have made an ambulance available to genuinely save someones life.

Sir I salute you.

Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.

It really hacks me off when you hear that people dial 999 for things like aspirin or tampons. Do these people have any idea how much a 'shout' costs, in terms of staff time and vehicle costs? They should be billed for the lot, in my view.

Mate - yesterday I got sent on a job for someone who was "upset and distressed". Pitch up and she's crying cos some leaves are blocking her guttering. She even had a ladder ready for us and asked us to clear them!!!

that is a reasonably normal day to be honest. That and getting shot at, having bricks thrown at you, hammers and an old fridge freezer lobbed off a 9th floor balcony. Or getting spat at, or thrown about by some gang of drunk twats.

So we don't mind coming out to "normal " jobs with inj's. It's what we do.
