My new 2CV

I'd love a BX GTI. A pal of mine used to go and bully Audis and BMWs in his. Apparently the usual Citroen (lack of) build quality meant that they shook themselves to bits after a while though. I'm making do with my TZD, which has amazing acceleration from 15-40mph, and from 55-70 mph, if you get the sweet spot.

As well as sticking to the road, as you say. I've often dropped idiots in hatchbacks at roundabouts or tight corners, watching them bounce around in the rear-view mirror.

I have lost count of the 2cvs I have owned, the last one went when I got involved in bands and needed to lug pa systems about, not enough space.. got a Sherpa:wacko:

The last one I had... really nice re chassis job, supercharger thingy and a very good engine [ they vary widely ] .. It was pretty quick, I drove it with the rear seats out and any extra weight removed, I could break the speed limit on the motorways [ just ] and drove it harder than any other vehicle I have ever owned.

If you don't have a back wheel lifting on corners you ain't driving it properly..

I have a few odds and ends left if anyone needs them, including a few switches, length of exhaust, some lighting bits and a vent flap.. probably other odds as well. .

And it was a DS that saved De Gaulle, wasn't it, in an assassination attempt - with 2 tyres shot out, it just picked those wheels up and sped off...

I nearly bought one of the special Citroens with spots on it from a garage in Wool when I was on holiday. That was in the very early 80s. At the time I had a Morris Minor Pick up truck which I used for throwing my and my son's bikes in when we used to go all over the country on little breaks. That one went up to Northumberland and of course down to Dorset.

I saw a lovely DS at a Classic car show in Hebden Bridge, plus a beautiful Dyane estate.

Mr Campfire very much into classic cars, he restores them for a living & is if I may say, very good at it. Too thorough to make much out of it though. I've got a 1972 VW Beetle 1303S. After my modern (20 year old) car, it seems very agricultural but great fun.

I saw the mud diving Citroen, will have a good look at it when I've more time. I'm glad I wasn't in it though as I'd have been terrified.

I would say it a R4 is better than a 2CV. A little more power, slightly stronger body and (very slightly) better rust protection. There used to be loads of them around here, especially the vans which the Irish Post and Telegraph people bought in vast numbers and they were painted in a strange orange and white colour scheme. I recently found out that Renault built R4 vans in Ireland. Impossible to find any now, unfortunately. A R4 van would be a very practical thing to have.

As tyred says, there used to be loads in Ireland, and great vans they were too. We used one for a long time, and it is better than the 2CV in many respects. I'd have one now quite happily.
