Mate of mine has a 2CV, an AK400 2CV van, a DS and a DS Safari. And a Citroen Xsara estaste as his daily driver. He likes Citroens!

Oooh, the DS. If I had a stupid amount of spare money, and a garage...

I saw recently some car (Audi maybe?) advertising that it had headlamps that moved with the steering, to shine round corners. Fancy that, eh? Only how many decades behind the DS....

When there were lots of 2CVs around they used to be the slowest car on the road in the UK and I often got stuck behind one.

But when we went to France on holiday they were about the fastest thing on the road. The French seemed to drive them in a way that once they got it up to about 60 they were not going to slow down for anything and blasted through every village and around every bend without braking.

That's how you have to drive them. Flat out absolutely everywhere. They really are great fun once you get the hang of them.

I had two 2CVs, two Dyanes (one of which had been set up as a trialler; that was fun) and an Acadiane over the years. Buying another one has taken me back about ten years.

My mother bought a new Dyane aroiund 1969. She took it back to the dealer to complain that the windscreen wipers were in the wrong place, didn't clear enough of the screen, and could they move them please.

I have fond memories of a Dyane and a couple of BXes.

As I recall, the wiper arrangement made much more sense on the left hand drive cars. As in fact did all the interior controls; pretty much the only things they moved over to the right were the pedals and the steering wheel.

I was at Tough Guy a couple of weeks ago the other side of Wolves. The eccentric Mr Mouse who owns the land has a pile of wrecked 2CVs in a corner. Wonder whether there's anything salvageable on them?

Is that still held out at Ebstree? Or am I thinking of another event?

And yes, there's always something salvageable on a pile of old 2CVs.

When I went to Corsica a few times in the early 1990s for work, the site owner who was our client got one of his employees to give me a lift back to my Hotel in town. There was this tremendous racket, then slowly emerged from the large barn a well faded dark green 2CV sporting no exhaust and one headlight. There was no passenger door and a battery in place of the seat with a 1/2 bale of straw in the back with a small goat munching on it quite nonchalently as if it had always taken repas there. Anyway I anxiously climbed in, perching on the battery, which I was told was flat, to see that there was actually no floor in footwell as such, just planks!!! The site owner wished me "Courage!" and then sped off in his big modern Renault barge. I meanwhile was left to travel back to the hotel in this heap of a car with an inscruitable Corsican driver with skin like leather who confirmed my worst fears as having no fear. Fortunately my chauffeur had furnished me with a grubby cushion which was of some comfort as we lurched around the narrow tracks and lanes speeding back to town. I held on for dear life. "Zis iz Merde alors!"

I only have a 2CV gearbox, never quite made it to wanting a whole car. It sits in my workshop with its discs and drive shafts removed while I look for a clutch disc and the outer parts of the drive shafts.

Would any of you 2CV fans have an old clutch disc lying around please?
I only need the centre of it to couple a motor to the splines. I can't find an old one anywhere and it is a shame to cut up a new one, as well as costly.

When I next replace my clutch - although 2CV clutches last for ever - I'll send you the old one. What are you going to do with the gearbox?

He's going to fix it to the engine and chassis he'll be asking for, next
