Nice one @Pale Rider

Mine is performing really well, I'm even pleased with the Suntour chainset that shifts as crisply as the Shimano ones on other bikes! The gearing is so low that I spend most of my time in the "big" 42T ring .

My only niggle, after the hanger recall, is that the front brake shudders if I try to brake really hard. I need to read up and see if it's a set-up thing and something I can adjust will make it better.

Otherwise, it's great for pootling rides and carrying stuff, so I'm gonna pop some mudguards on it and use it for some commuting too.

Yes, same here, with a metal on metal noise too: Evans says it's due to bedding in.
I'm not convinced, let me know if you find the cause of the problem please :hello:

Quite a coincidence that two of the few people I've met from here have the same bike.

Thanks for the tip about the mech hanger, if anything, the bolt on mine wasn't as tight as it could be.

I nipped it up a bit further after undoing it and giving the thread a little squirt.

The demo bike I tried had a metallic noise from the front end, seemed to be coming from the disc brake.

Mine has been fine in that respect.

I did have a bottom bracket/crank creak for a few miles which stopped of its own accord - probably grease settling into where it needs to be.

Overall, it does feel like a good, sturdy bike.

I've checked out the brake.

Evans are part-right, it's bedding in. Or rather it hasn't bedded in properly and the pads had glazed.

To sort it, remove the pads, clean the disc and pads with brake cleaner, then rub the pads on some sandpaper. I used 600 grit wet-n-dry paper, and you'll soon see it remove the glazed surface. Wipe the dust off the pads and reinstall the brake. Shuddering now gone. To help it bed in, get up to speed and do some hard braking until just before you stop. Repeat a few times.

I'll be keeping an eye on them to see if I've done it right this time.

Thank you @MikeW-71: I did liberally douse the rotors and pads with brake cleaner, without taking the pads out though. Will do this as well.
You know what improved the shuddering a lot? I did a wee google, someone suggested tightening the headset a smidge, this I did: the shuddering stopped, but the grating is still there, will follow your suggestion next.
Should we just get new pads?
