My new commute?

Partly as a result of the issue posted here, I decided I had run my course driving local taxis. I am on a pension, so not looking for another proper "career", and am about to start a wee part time job in Greenock, about 15 miles from home. One of the reasons I took it is that it gives me the opportunity to bike commute (only in the better weather ; I am not about to become one of those hardcore types over on the commuting board ;)). Hours are 10am to 5pm; one week on, one week off. So plenty of free time to build some miles, hopefully.

The main A78 route is not very bike friendly, to put it mildly. Busy, narrow trunk road; horrible for cycling. However, there is an alternative which involves a degree of climbing . The upside is obvious though, this was taken on a particularly busy day for traffic:

The hills above Inverkip is another alternative:

From the hill north of Largs, looking over Cumbrae with Arran in the distance. Oh, and a nuclear power station (the white bit)...

@Brandane Good luck with the new job, and yes, I think I could cope with that commute on a nice day. Looks lovely.

I can't imagine a better way to end a working day than heading up the 15%+ climb up out of Greenock

Best of luck with the new job, and here's hoping there are lots of good days to commute on (fat chance, I know...)
Could be tempted by the flatter but longer ride through Gourock, Inverkip, and Skelmorlie, then cut over the Meigle road to avoid the worst part of the A78.

Great scenery ... when it's dry
You can always take the train back after work, no? Maybe an excuse for a N+1= Brompton?

No room at the inn for any more bikes, there are already six littering my spare room!
The only way to get the train from Greenock to Largs is via Paisley. Have done it before but it is expensive, and a long road for a short-cut. Can be a long wait for the connection at Paisley, too.

Well, you are going to become an all weather commuter
No use spending lots on gear btw, nothing will keep you dry

All weather commuter? Ha ha, no chance ^_^. I like my comforts too much to ever be hardcore.
Just left my boss after breaking the sad news to her that Thursday will be my last regular shift. I managed to leave the door open for future casual work if I feel the need .
