Oh yes I'd say a much better ride altogether for the road. I fancied a road bike but also like the trails in summer so a hybrid was the best choice for me. Still might get a roadie as time goes on though but an old one to do up as a project.

mine was bought as a road bike with drop bars and so has a road frame, the max width tyres I can get on are 25's,as with you I like canal paths and trails etc,may change the frame soon, what tyres can you get on yours.

Mine are 700x35, it's got trail tyres on which seem ok for light trails without affecting road use too much.
I've been looking at the new Viking racer today and like the look of it very much. It's half the weight of my hybrid. Oh how I need a lottery win lol ;)

What is the name of the new Viking racer Dave....mine is down to £220 from £375 at Rutland Cycling, because its the Roma 2011 and the 2012 is out now,,comes at 11kg which with a few upgrades like I've done you can shave a bit off.The Boardman road race in Halfords uses the same 6061 frame ,with the cheap Shimano sora components,,you can upgrade a Roma and end up with a better bike....

I think it was the San Remo I was looking at not far off the 500 quid mark. It was white with black and red detail like mine but lighter frame and probably better components judging by the price.
Mine's a Pine Trail. I've read it's Vikings entry level hybrid but I can't fault it up to now and it's loads better than bikes I've owned in the past.
