Got doored today, just about stopped in time. The door caught my handlebar on the drop, *pulled out the bar end slightly ripped the tape. The woman who got out just said "Sorry, you alright mate?"... MATE? She called me mate after dooring me, bloody dozy mare. I just gave her a very hard stare and said it could have been much worse.. she then apologised and said she should have looked first. I said Yes and with that I let it go..

What a bummer - I hate it when your new toy gets damaged.

I dropped my new Planet X last week, scuffed the brake lever and bar tape - practically a write-off!

Sounds like you're ok which is the main thing.

I feel your pain though!

Ooh, terrible way to start the day! I'm glad to hear you're ok though!

I've never understood calling strangers mate etc, particularly when you've affected them so negatively, but maybe she was trying to create some sort of connection with you to soften her actions?

Well the worst part of your day is out the way now. Things can only get better (I hope!) B)

Shoot, chap. Glad that you are ok... I'll give you £20 for the "ruined" bike, even if it isn't in the best colour. B)

You should have settled it the easy way, the hard way or the even harder way.

Easy - "That's twenty quids worth of damage, that is missus!".

Hard - "Let me take some photos for the CTC's legal team".

Harder - "I think I'm injured. I'll have to call an ambulace and the police".

Ah Ian

So sorry to hear that your pride and joy has been smited by a door - a bit of tinkering will sort you out though technically she should pay for the cost having caused the damage through lack of due care. However on the bright side...you can choose whatever colour tape, gel etc you want now!!!

Sorry to hear that Ian. Even worse when you do it yourself and there's no one else to blame (like I did).

I'll give you a £100 as a favour and take it off your hands.

sorry to hear that but I think you let her off too leniently.

It may have been a careless action on her part but the outcome of of negligence is still her responsibility . I'd have suggested that she reinburse you the cost of the damage. Why should you have to pay for her dangerous actions? it could have resulted in serious injury if you were thrown into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

glad you are ok anyway. No doubt due to you're alertness and anticipation

I am I the only one who thimks that if you get doored, then you are riding to close to parked cars?

Err no, but that's a matter of good defensive riding. Actual legal and moral blame almost always devolves onto the careless driver, as they (we?) are required to be very careful when opening car doors.
